Think social media is a bit out of control? It might be because there's no way to de-escalate conflict, which is an essential part of functional human societies. Here's my proposal for one way to do so, allowing people to admit their mistakes on @twitter.

@Apple Its damn impressive that hardware, software, AND ecosys/AI have all been lined up so well for John; obviously some of it was his doing but still. Even in design, he avoids the blowback from the destined-to-be-controversial liquid glass change and arrives as the guy that fixes it
John Ternus has been set up to succeed as incoming CEO of @apple:
New hardware = OLED touchscreen M6 Macs, foldable iPhone (2026) & 20th anniversary iPhone (2027)
Quality software = snow leopard-like macOS27
AI, finally = Gemini-powered Siri
Clean slate = post groveling 47 era
@Apple This was 100% intentional, as Apple famously plays the long game and really understands optics & message. It happened today bc Apple's AI answer is coming @ WWDC in June and he needs 2b associated w it, and 47s cooked (not by tim π) so its now safe enough to make a clean break.
Agree with all of this, except Figma was never the source of truth because itβs never reflected the actual constraints of the medium of software. One of the ways designers get deluded is thinking their design systems are real, when at best theyβre a loose approximation of the territory.
@SwiftOnSecurity I've still got a beta copy of Total Annihilation that @DeathBot9 gave me when I visited GPG to interview back in 99. Sadly the disc got scratched, could only restore the EXE not the HPI files.
@SwiftOnSecurity Tribes! TA! Homeworld! I used to run the TA level editing site on https://t.co/RbwO5Iddmw, led me to design RTSs. Applied to be a Homeworld beta tester and Relic kindly let me despite them knowing I worked at Pandemic on a competitor 3d RTS. Good people!
@marijanzivic@claudeai Sick! how long did it take you to put this together? I've been toying with maestro and playwright but found automation slow and still kinda a pain to set up right. Any tips?
@kepano@karrisaarinen@obsdmd Two continuums w malleability that I see:
1. tool capability -> user desire distance: If near, its extension of tool, if far it's a diff tool.
2. tool vs proverbial hole in wall: Some users want hands on a tool to shape outcomes, some just want the job done.
@kepano@karrisaarinen@obsdmd Jumping in here - whenever there's a divergence between what a tool does and what a user wishes, that seems to be an implicit desire for malleability? Users may not all be tool builders but certainly all desire from tools things they don't do. Agents fill that desire->build gap.
@GamewithDave Shout out to Battlezone II, it defined the hybrid FPS/RTS genre and first game I worked on. Remastered a few years ago and modders keep making it better. https://t.co/JUrgFleCH4
@zoink I'm concerned about Figma's viability in the age of AI if Figma still can't get basics like nested components, fonts, memory use, & colors right. These core/deep use cases are moats you should have been building. Avoiding the hard stuff has left Figma vulnerable to being cloned.
@zoink Two issues I ran into today when attempting to use this for production work
1. it doesn't work with custom fonts, which any good app uses
2. Figma's stuck on 8-bit color, so I'm stuck with banded grays. Apple ecosystem has been 10-bit P3 for years now
@FU_joehudson This is why some of the advice around βdo what you loveβ I find terribly misguided, as though we are static and incapable of change. We should strive to find something worth doing and then βdo until you loveβ. Falling in love is life giving and itβs a skill in its own right.
@s8mb This is pretty imprecisely argued. I can't tell what meaningful distinctions you perceive between any internet services. You potentially have an interesting angle on kids autonomy, but dropping 'Tiktok is more like books than alcohol' w/o evidence is not a good take
