75 days into the “ceasefire”: the genocide in Gaza is not over
Since the “ceasefire” was declared on 10 October 2025, Israel has been continuing its onslaught on the ground. Israeli forces have killed 405 Palestinians and injured 1,114 throughout the Gaza Strip (as of 22 December).
Israeli forces continue to shoot residents and target Internally displaced people (IDP) compounds on either side of the “yellow line”, which left 58% of Gaza in Israeli control under the deal yet was never clearly marked. Nearly 1 million people who lived east of the line before the genocide are now crowded west of it in unlivable conditions.
Israel continues to systematically demolish buildings and infrastructure east of the “yellow line”.
Updated satellite images show hundreds of structures flattened in eastern Gaza City alone.
Israel continues to heavily limit the entry of aid, allowing more trucks in but hampering full-scale operations by the UN and its partners through access and bureaucracy restrictions. As of 16 December, only 57% of 556 planned aid missions were completed, including delivery of essential supplies, medical evacuations and infrastructure repairs.
Israel continues to restrict the operation of crossings in and out of Gaza. In mid-December, only two of the crossings were operating at any given time, and Rafah Crossing remained closed despite commitments to reopen it.
More food has entered and market prices have dropped. However, after months of severe malnutrition, with limited variety and prices still unaffordable for most, the UN estimates that 1.6 million people in Gaza “are projected to face extreme levels of acute food insecurity” in 2026.
Nearly 1.5 million displaced people are still in camps. Storm Byron flooded thousands of makeshift tents, inundating the Civil Defense in Gaza with emergency pleas for shelter and basic supplies. The Gaza Ministry of Health has reported 11 people killed by structures that collapsed in the storm and two children, one a newborn, who died of hypothermia.
More than 18,500 patients, at least 4,000 of them children, are still awaiting medical evacuation from Gaza, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Israel has allowed only 260 patients out of Gaza for treatment in this time, after decimating the healthcare system there.
Israel continues to bar the entry of medical teams and journalists, preventing lifesaving treatment and upholding the media blackout on documentation and reports from the ground.
The so-called ceasefire has been in effect for 75 days. In practice, Israel is continuing its campaign of killing, destruction, displacement and complete control of Palestinians’ lives in Gaza. The international community must stop enabling this façade and take action to help the people of Gaza.
While Christians celebrate the Child of Bethlehem, children in Gaza with cancer are blocked from life-saving treatment. The Churches in Jerusalem issued an urgent humanitarian appeal. Denying medical care to children is indefensible.
Today, a 29-day-old baby died at Nasser hospital, southern Gaza, Palestine, just two hours after arriving at the MSF- supported paediatric ward in the early hours of the morning. Despite treatment efforts, he could not be saved. According to the Ministry of Health, he died from hypothermia.
"Children are losing their lives because they lack the most basic items for survival. Babies are arriving to the hospital cold, with near-death vital signs: even our best efforts are not enough. They say the war has ended, but people are still having to fight for their lives," says Bilal Abu Saada-Nursing Team Supervisor at Nasser Hospital.
The harsh winter weather combined with the already dire living conditions is increasing health risks and MSF teams are consistently seeing high rates of respiratory infections - something which will only increase throughout winter and is particularly dangerous for children under five-years old
As Gaza is battered by heavy rains and storms, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians continue to struggle in flooded and broken makeshift tents. MSF calls on Israeli authorities to urgently allow a massive scale up of aid into the Strip.
The orchestrated Israeli campaign to link Bondi with ‘globalise the intifada’ - completely without evidence since Australian police have linked killers to ISIS - bears dramatic fruit in the UK. They don’t care about the victims of terror, only about protecting Israel’s genocide.
In the wake of the murder of 15 people in Sydney Israel and its supporters have succeeded in shifting the debate away from the genocide of more than 70,000 people in Gaza - and back towards whether people should be allowed to protest that genocide.
Meanwhile in Gaza ...
If you condemn the horrific, antisemitic attack in Bondi Beach while still defending genocide in Gaza, you’re not actually outraged by the killing of innocent people.
It’s not hard to condemn both, unless you think some lives are more valuable than others.
It’s not over. Almost two months into the so-called “ceasefire” in Gaza, Israel is still killing Palestinians there and in the West Bank.
Gaza is still being starved and homes in it destroyed. Ethnic cleansing in the West Bank is accelerating.
We cannot treat this as normal.
When we face genocide, apartheid and ethnic cleansing – we choose to resist.
If you believe, as we do, that in moments like this we must choose a side – support B’Tselem.
Join our fight to defend human rights from the river to the sea and to expose the crimes Israel is committing against Palestinians.
Every donation makes a difference. Every share is part of the struggle for justice, freedom and equality.
In the face of genocide – choose to resist.

The massacre in Bondi, Sydney yesterday was an abomination. Targeting Jews and any innocents is morally abhorrent.
Full stop.
Don’t let these heinous acts be weaponized in support of racism, demonizing Islam or backing the Israeli state.
This morning I recorded a podcast episode to respond to the outrage in Bondi and those trying to exploit it.
You can find the whole episode on YouTube, Spotify and Apple under ‘The Antony Loewenstein Podcast’.

Take care out there. Be compassionate. Stay sane. Reject hate.
Thanks to producer Lem Zakharia for making this all happen.
Intentionally killing innocent people is always wrong.
Wherever in the world it happens.
You might think everyone agrees with this simple moral principle, and yet far too many people, on far too many different sections of the political spectrum, try and make exceptions to it.
Opposing violence against Palestinians is not incitement of violence.
Believing Palestinians are humans of equal worth is not hatred.
And if you use the Bondi Beach atrocity to justify violence against Palestinians, then it's not violence that you object to.
It is not "demonisation of Israel" to hold a light to what Israel is doing in #Gaza and the West Bank and to urge the international community to act accordingly @chiefrabbi@BBCr4today#R4today
As a Palestinian, I condemn the horrific massacre in Bondi and the targeting of innocent people from the Jewish community at the start of Hanukkah.
This is utterly abhorrent.
I extend my deepest condolences to the Australian Jewish community and to all the victims and their families.
Terrorism, antisemitism, violence, racism and hatred are crimes against humanity and have no place anywhere whether in Australia or anywhere else in the world.
My review of Jean-Pierre Filiu's excellent and unflinching account of 33-day Gaza visit witnessing Israel's genocide in @The_NewArab https://t.co/Jy06kWrtMZ
“Israel has zero intention to relinquish control of the Gaza Strip.”
The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is “non-existent”, the UN’s Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories Francesca Albanese says.
