@Physalis20@dankrad won't it be less of a problem tho if storage is priced separately, which glamsterdam sets out to do?
I depart from the assumption that state bloat is the major downside of spam and parameters will be set in place to price out state bloat spam.
@GsuGrinding@BlueGeorgia What is the point of 'winning' if you get this thanks to favorable treatment? Any US fan who wants an untainted win should protest this shit show.
@ErikVoorhees@ProudSocialist To be fair, that is part of the reason why people start companies and give equity to early employees. Startup ecosystem, commonly derided as a capitalist casino, is in fact the most labor friendly part.
@AmrikanDesiAnon@kamilkazani I think Kamil mentions competitive in a wider sense. Corrupt third world businessmen that have various sectors cornered in their countries actually have to compete brutally in court politics and power games, things a startup founder in SV might be naive about.
@kamilkazani Ottomans were so late in reforms when compared Russians. Khovansky Affair happened a century earlier than Janissary disbandment.
They probably could have only pulled it off if they were further away and able to finance modernization through exports (like Japan did).
The EU's Digital Services Act censorship is soon to fire on all cylinders, servicing Israel.
Under DSA, Ireland grants the Jewish Representative Council of Ireland the status of a trusted flagger organisation. A trusted flagger may remove any online content without review. Earlier, this same organisation claimed it was wrong to recognise a Palestinian state.
This decision followed a meeting between ex-Israeli spy Inbal Goldberger, the regulator, and Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill TD.
This is not only a conflict of interest, but appropriating the EU tools of censorship for the Israeli cause. The state of Israel has a propaganda budget of $700M. Unlike Russian trolls who post nonsense crap, Israel is smarter and will likely shape the narrative through various Jewish organisations, like JRCI, around the world to censor any news that is harmful to Israel's occupation and genocide campaigns.
This risk has always existed and is well known, e.g., in Germany, where trusted flaggers are known to be politically biased towards the political left. Trusted flaggers operate outside courts, outside public review and fair due process, and, in the history of humankind, any such process has led to very dark periods.
As reported by @Paul__Walsh
@emilmalek8752@HeerJeet dude, US bombed ISIS and armed Kurds against them. ISIS is not the example you would want to bring to the discussion. Imagine US dealing with Israel the way it has dealt with ISIS.
@haugejostein It will probably be better for Europe to drop the pretense of fairness as no one is buying that in 2026 anyway. But what should Europe do?
Protectionism is not ideal; it distorts the economy. Yet it might well be the last resort solution if the alternative is losing industries.
@kamilkazani also for China, it seems like there is a competition between Beijing (allied with SOEs) and provincial governments (supporting private local champions). Mostly borrowing from this paper which is making rounds now:
https://t.co/oFaM3mktEL
Why did private firms, not state-owned enterprises (SOEs), come to dominate China’s EV sector?
My new @ChinaJournal article (co-authored with Xiao Ma @maxiaoalex) challenge the "top-down industrial policy" narrative.
The real engine? Strategic alliances between local governments and private capital. 🧵
Based on 3+ years of fieldwork, 60+ interviews (with officials, entrepreneurs, and engineers), and rich first-hand accounts, we show how strict central regulations inadvertently drove local states to bet big on private EV players.
Here is the story: (1/15)
@Maavuori@alexstubb Well, Trump and Netanyahu are not genuinely interested in the well-being of the Iranian people. So, maybe we can at least celebrate that some Iranian school or hospital will not be bombed.
@realTobiasR@alexstubb No, the consistent approach would be Stubb demanding maximum pressure and isolation for US (and Israel) as they are the aggressors here.
US, just like Russia, started a 3-day special military operation on Iran. Credit to Trump for not doubling down on the wrong path.
