“Since my first day as a fellow here, my ideas have been taken seriously.”
Dr. Bari Rosenberg appreciates the openness to new ideas she has found as a clinical fellow at NIH, and how working directly with patients participating in clinical trials is a unique experience to advance medicine.

👩The NIH Office of Research on Women’s Health is proud to announce the COMpetency in Menopause & Integrated Therapy (COMMIT) Challenge!
This challenge seeks to identify, amplify, and reward curricula that comprehensively address the menopausal transition, including menopause hormone therapy, within U.S. health education programs.
The cerebellum is a part of the brain primarily known to be involved in movement and coordination. A new study conducted by NIH Stadtman Investigator Dr. Mark Wagner and his lab shows it could also play a pivotal role in learning and retaining new skills.
Their findings shed new light on the cerebellum—quite literally—and could help explain how the brain reuses what it already knows to learn new tasks without getting its wires crossed.
🎉 Congratulations to four NIH researchers and leaders newly elected to the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) — one of the highest honors in health and medicine!

NIH researchers have discovered a natural defense mechanism that may help the body prevent plaque from building up inside arteries, opening new possibilities for treating atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, a leading cause of death in the U.S. https://t.co/6EInu91oLo
Thank you, @FLOTUS, for your leadership in advancing women’s health.
Women deserve clear answers about conditions that uniquely or disproportionately affect them. Today, we are changing how our government pursues those answers. The new Women’s Health Division at @NIH will tackle these questions with gold-standard science, accelerate research, and turn discoveries into better prevention, treatments, and care for women across America.
“Substance use disorders can involve periods of remission and recurrence — as is the case with heart disease, diabetes, and other chronic illnesses. But lasting recovery is possible, and science continues to deliver new tools to help more people achieve it.”
Dr. Nora Volkow serves as director of NIH’s National Institute on Drug Abuse.

NIH-funded researchers found that combining engineered transfer RNA with an approved cystic fibrosis treatment could improve function of the proteins affected by the disease.
More research is needed before it can be used in humans, but the findings may offer hope for people who don’t respond to current treatments due to certain mutations.

Women make up half our population, yet too many questions about their health remain unanswered.
President Trump’s Executive Order marks an exciting opportunity to strengthen NIH’s investment in women’s health research and advance the Administration’s commitment to improving women’s health throughout the lifespan.
Under the order, we look forward to establishing a new Women’s Health Division. Working closely with NIH’s Office of Research on Women’s Health, the division will strengthen the Federal Government’s ability to:
• coordinate research on women’s health conditions, including replication studies;
• address gaps in scientific understanding; and
• accelerate the translation of discoveries into better health outcomes.
