Today was parents’ observation day at my son’s elementary school in Japan, and they had 道徳 (ethics/good citizenship) class.
They discussed the feelings of a boy who submitted an invoice to his mother for cleaning his room, doing his homework, etc. and the response of the mother who submitted an invoice of her own, listing zero yen for treating him kindly, cooking for him, caring for him when he’s sick, etc.
I don’t we think had any mandatory classes like that when I was a kid in the States.

Asian American fam, let’s stop policing Asian American content for lack of Asian language fluency/accents. My own family has a range of fluency, even immigrants. One immigrant member learned Canto from her husband and speaks it with an accent. This is not the battle.
