Placenta accreta syndrome is poorly understood and under-diagnosed. Thanks to Sarah Jewell for a great article explaining why we need a better understanding of PAS. https://t.co/R6AX2NDz0w
AIMS congratulates Action for Accreta on the success of their campaign to raise awareness of the need for early diagnosis of the condition and appropriate planning to manage it https://t.co/zi3m4TQgB4

HSSIB have started really important investigation for maternity safety - focusing on the barriers to timely diagnosis and care re Placenta Accreta Spectrum.
Great work from Amisha & @nikadhia1 - whose painstaking work has led to this. ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

Thank you @JamesTitcombe - in James fashion he is shy about the fact this was his original idea and we could not have got here without his mentorship, support and unwavering advocacy since the beginning. We hope this leads to safer pathways for the next mother and baby 🙌

@JamesTitcombe@MCR_SB_Research She did finally get a C section (for the record) but when began, she had significant adhesions, had uncontrolled bleeding and the team was not prepared in a non-specialist accreta hospital. She was put under GA, and fortunately had a surgical team there but what if she didn’t?
@JamesTitcombe@MCR_SB_Research We had a patient contact us forced down this route, refused a C section and told there was ‘no capacity’ despite requesting this throughout her care pathway. She had undiagnosed placenta increta and nearly lost her life as a result with a full on emergency. This is happening.
@ExNHSorthopod@JamesTitcombe Perinatal data is more accurate than most datasets, deaths are reviewed and reclassified through MBRRACE and PMRT, so there’s scrutiny. Gap isn’t the death coding. It’s that no dataset easily links a clinical decision ie, a delivery decision to the harm that follows
@valhumphreys51 This is why @MichelleWelshMP is where she is. Someone has to stand up, investigate and right a wrong. The difference is follow through and in working with her, that is something she does which is seldom many do. Kudos Michelle!
the engineer who built Claude Code just dropped a 28-minute video on how to write prompts that actually work
I've seen $300 courses that don't cover what he shows in the first 10 minutes
CLAUDE.md files, memory shortcuts, parallel sessions, prompting patterns
all in one video and completely free
works whether you're a developer, a beginner, or someone who's been using Claude for months
based on this, I put together below guide you can read and implement in Claude today
@BirthTrauma@Fullyfallible It also depends heavily on personal interest and this is likely the first time in a decade that maternity is on the radar in a meaningful time bound way.
A baby who suffered a stroke during birth and now has cerebral palsy. Women left with permanent bladder damage after emergency surgery no one was prepared for. These are the consequences when Placenta Accreta Spectrum goes undetected. https://t.co/n4JbrQJo6Y #ActionForAccreta
All too often, cases of placenta accreta spectrum are missed. "Worryingly, six out of 10 of the 100 women say their PAS went undiagnosed, increasing the risk of them bleeding to death." https://t.co/g2z8djDfOC
Rare pregnancy complication "PAS" triggers UK medical emergency
NHS staff failing to detect fatal placenta accreta spectrum in mothers...
Women undergoing emergency hysterectomies after catastrophic blood loss...
Campaigners demanding mandatory reporting and updated maternity dashboards...
A silent killer in the delivery room finding a voice.
The joy of birth turning into a fight for the mother's life.
Medical negligence or a systemic failure, the stories are heartbreaking.
Birthrights is proud to support the Action for Accreta campaign. Amisha Adhia’s experience shows how systemic inequalities and failures to listen can put lives at risk.Everyone has the right to safe, respectful, rights-respecting maternity care.

Good to see Amisha sharing her experience of placenta accreta. There's a real opportunity here to learn from Dr Otigbah, who identified what other senior doctors missed.
