HAGURUKA, in collaboration with @Lands_Rwanda with support of @lantmateriet, is raising awareness on land law across sectors of @NyabihuDistrict, encouraging citizens to manage and transfer land in accordance with the law.

Citizens raised key issues: land transfers made without registration before the Notary, transactions conducted without spousal consent, gender inequality in land inheritance, mismanagement of land documents (UPI), and the challenges women in informal marriages face when claiming property rights.

One local leader said: "When citizens know the law, families are protected, women's rights are upheld, and land disputes are prevented."

Haguruka creates safe spaces where women find their voice, strength, and dignity — building confidence and leadership.

Through storytelling, training on key laws, and peer support, women speak their hearts and step into decisions.

We have countless stories of women once silenced, who found the strength to start businesses, resolve conflicts, and become local leaders. Their courage didn't just change their lives; it inspired those around them.

In partnership with @Lands_Rwanda , we continue mass awareness on land use and ownership across all 9 sectors in @RuhangoDistrict , equipping citizens with knowledge on land laws and rights to help them understand and protect their rights while respecting others.

Citizens identified key challenges, including land disputes, insecure tenure, poor service delivery, and limited awareness of women's land rights. They also highlighted solutions such as equal land ownership, stronger registration processes, peaceful dispute resolution, and improved community education on land rights. @lantmateriet

HAGURUKA presented its localized solutions and innovative legal aid approaches and services that improve access to justice for women and girls, while also the journey of participatory civil society advocacy that has led to legal reform, awareness of rights, representation.

In her remarks, our Chairperson, Monique Munyankindi, reflected on the journey of the Ingo z’Amahoro program and the power of dialogue:

"Many couples arrived reluctant, unwilling to even sit together. But through dialogue, homework assignments, and a safe space, they began to open up, share, and listen to one another."

In the last 7 years, the Ingo z’Amahoro program has reached 740 couples. Using innovative approaches, the program brings couples together, creating safe spaces for them to share experiences and learn from one another.

This has led to transformative change at both individual and community levels—fostering mindset shifts, building confidence, and harnessing positive community influences.

Today, we convened members of a coalition representing 16 women's rights organizations to validate our shadow report on Rwanda's UPR implementation regarding women’s rights.

The report assesses progress in implementing UPR recommendations, including gender equality, combating GBV, women's economic empowerment, and other related issues.

Our lawyers attended training on the updated IECMS system, thanks to the expert support from @Rwanda_Justice. It focused on mastering the new features, enabling us to better assist our rights holders in accessing justice. We are dedicated to leveraging technology to enhance our services!
