Four civilians, including a child, killed in junta attacks on Bilin #Mon and Hpa-an #Karen Townships as homes, schools, and religious buildings are damaged.
Villages in Bilin Township and Hpa-an Township, Karen State, came under repeated attacks by the Junta using airstrikes, drones, and heavy artillery, killing four civilians, including a child, and damaging a school, homes, and religious buildings, according to a statement from the KNU Central Committee.
Throughout April, the Junta reportedly carried out near-daily attacks on villages where civilians live in Bilin #Mon and Hpa-an #Karen townships.
Between April 19 and 30, the military used Y-12 aircraft, fighter jets, and armed helicopters to repeatedly bomb Win Tar Pan village, Upper Win Tar Pan village, and Kyauk Phyar village in Myit Kyoe village tract, Bilin Township.
During an airstrike on April 19, two homes, one school, a monastery gate, one dhamma hall, a fuel shop, and a shelter at a cemetery were damaged in Win Tar Pan, Upper Win Tar Pan, and Kyauk Phyar villages. Five cattle were also killed.
On April 22, further airstrikes destroyed 11 homes in Kyauk Phyar village and five more homes in Win Tar Pan and Upper Win Tar Pan villages. Another nine houses in Win Tar Pan were damaged during an airstrike on April 23. On April 25, public workplaces in Bilin Township were also damaged.
The violence continued on April 27, when, in addition to air attacks, Junta reinforcements entered Win Tar Pan village and set houses on fire. From April 28 to 30, further attacks by armed helicopters and aircraft caused more homes to burn, although the full extent of the destruction has not yet been confirmed.
In Hpa-an Township, the Junta also fired 120 mm artillery near Htee Kyaw Khee village on April 27, killing an 88-year-old local woman, Daw Thein May, after she was struck by shrapnel.
Local sources also reported that on April 21, two unexploded 120 mm shells from an earlier attack on April 16 were found in farms and fields near Ban Bway Gone village.
According to the reported incidents, at least four civilians, including a child and a prison medic, were killed, while around 10 others suffered serious or moderate injuries. Seven cattle were also killed.
