The discussion was moderated by Shri @niteshjain_ca, Chief Rating Officer, CareEdge Global Ratings.

The panel explored how sovereign ratings must evolve in an increasingly fragmented global environment and how emerging markets can attract capital through stronger institutions, credible reforms and predictable policy and regulatory frameworks.

The conversation also examined India’s resilience amid global geopolitical and fiscal uncertainty. The panellists highlighted how India’s strong macroeconomic fundamentals, reform momentum, demographic advantages and improving ease of doing business continue to reinforce its position as an attractive global investment destination.

A key theme was the need to mobilise private capital for infrastructure and development through innovative financing structures, including blended finance, guarantees, securitisation and sustainable finance instruments. The discussion emphasised the importance of policy stability, institutional credibility and financial innovation in supporting long-term economic growth.

The panel also highlighted the considerable potential of emerging markets, including economies across Africa, and the need for balanced assessment frameworks that recognise opportunities, strategic importance and reform progress alongside prevailing risks and vulnerabilities.

The conversation underscored the opportunity for India and GIFT City to emerge as major global financial hubs by deepening capital markets, expanding financial products and leveraging India’s strengths in technology, analytics and financial services.

Despite an uncertain global environment, the panel reaffirmed confidence in India’s long-term growth trajectory and GIFT City’s potential to serve as an international gateway for global capital.

He highlighted that global sovereign credit trends are entering a more challenging phase, marked by rising debt burdens, persistent inflation pressures and higher interest rates. Key themes included the growing fiscal strains facing major economies such as the US and China, the importance of institutional strength in sustaining creditworthiness, and the role of banking-sector stability in mitigating sovereign risk.

He also explained how effective governance, credible policy execution and productive investment can support long-term economic resilience, with examples ranging from Portugal’s reform success to challenges in France and China. For India, the discussion underscored the significance of banking-sector reforms, stronger financial-sector fundamentals and continued growth-focused policymaking in supporting the country’s credit profile. As global fiscal and geopolitical pressures mount, institutional quality and policy credibility remain critical differentiators in sovereign credit assessments.

At its second anniversary celebrations, #CareEdgeGlobal launched its latest report, “A Case for Reforms: Building Sovereign Resilience in an Evolving World.”

The report assesses 43 reform cases across 38 countries through two complementary matrices. The first maps reforms across the five pillars of CareEdge Global Ratings’ sovereign rating methodology, while the second examines them through a geographic lens.

The study covers 12 reforms from the Americas, 11 each from APAC and Europe, and nine from Africa. These include 14 fiscal, eight economic, eight external, seven monetary, and six institutional reforms.

Of the cases assessed, 15 are classified as Work in Progress, 10 as Highly Effective, and nine each as Moderately Effective and Least Effective.
Drawing on reform experiences across regions and policy areas, the report offers valuable insights into the factors that shape reform effectiveness and highlights how credible implementation can strengthen sovereign resilience and support credit quality in an evolving global environment.
