Whilst this heatwave gradually clears eastwards through the weekend and we return to more “normal” temperatures, the next potential spell is beginning to appear.

It’s almost ironic what I’m seeing on the weather maps. Portugal has been very fortunate to be exempt from the extreme heatwave which continues to affect most of the continent, but we will not “luck out” for much longer in this corner of Europe.

By the start of July, a very interesting shift in the atmospheric configuration will lead to a somewhat confined heatwave over the Iberian peninsula, with the greatest deviation from average focusing over Portugal.

Get ready for what may be a prolonged period of intense heat.
