🇦🇪 “We Love What Abu Dhabi Stands For”: Disney Whitewashes the UAE as It Funds Genocide in Sudan

The Walt Disney Company has released a glossy corporate documentary selling Abu Dhabi as a wonderland of mangroves, oases and limitless possibility ahead of its planned theme park and resort on Yas Island, its first in the Middle East.

In “Disney Worldbuilders,” former CEO Bob Iger says Disney considered locations worldwide before choosing the UAE capital, where one-third of the global population lives within a four-hour flight. “We love what Abu Dhabi stands for,” Iger declares, praising its “potential,” “dreams” and “tremendous optimism,” according to The National.

🔸Missing from Disney’s corporate fairy tale is the UAE’s extensively documented support for Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces, which the United States determined had committed genocide in Darfur. Nathaniel Raymond estimates that the RSF killed at least 60,000 people after capturing El Fasher in October 2025.

🔸 Amnesty found that Chinese bombs and howitzers used by the RSF were “almost certainly” re-exported by the UAE, while The Wall Street Journal reported weapons hidden aboard a UAE “aid” flight bound for a supply hub in Chad; the UAE-RSF supply network has continued and expanded, including through Ethiopia.

🔸Nathaniel Raymond (@nattyray11), executive director of Yale’s Humanitarian Research Lab, whose team monitored El Fasher during the RSF’s siege and later documented bodies beside earthen berms, mass graves and incineration sites, warned Disney that it was partnering with a government “credibly accused based on overwhelming forensic evidence of directly aiding the commission of genocide in Darfur by the RSF.”

🔸Cameron Hudson (@_hudsonc), a veteran Sudan analyst who previously served as the National Security Council’s Africa director and chief of staff to successive U.S. special envoys for Sudan, called Disney the latest massive American brand, after the NBA, to embrace the UAE.
