As we celebrate Olympic Day, we honour the athletes, coaches, and young dreamers who remind us that greatness begins with determination, exceptional self-discipline, and remarkable courage.
Today is a powerful reminder that every journey starts with a single step. We remain committed to creating opportunities for young people to embrace sport and physical activity, helping them develop confidence, perseverance, and realise their full potential.
May sport continue to empower our youth, strengthen our nation, and build bridges of friendship among people and countries around the world.

Since the enactment of the RTI Act in 2014, this marks the first time in the history of the Maldives that the President’s Office and all Ministries have achieved 100% compliance with proactive disclosure requirements. Information that had not previously been accessible to the public has now been made available.
Transparency is not merely a policy objective. This administration recognizes the fundamental right to information as a cornerstone of public trust and democratic governance. This is a significant step toward advancing transparency, strengthening public access to information, and increasing accountability.
As we reach this important milestone in our journey toward a more open and accountable government, I commend all institutions and public officials whose dedication made this achievement possible. Today, we reaffirm our commitment to continuing this meaningful work and enhancing public access to government information through digital platforms, ensuring greater civic engagement in government activities and decision-making.

I warmly welcome the United Kingdom’s decision to suspend tariffs on tuna imports effective 20th May 2026.
This important development will support British consumers while delivering meaningful benefits to the Maldives’ fisheries sector, strengthening fishermen’s incomes, supporting island livelihoods, and expanding opportunities for sustainably caught Maldivian tuna in the UK market.
The Maldives is globally recognised for its world-leading pole-and-line tuna industry and its commitment to responsible and sustainable fishing practices. This milestone reflects the close partnership between the Maldives and the UK and the importance both countries place on sustainable trade and economic resilience.
I thank the UK Government and all partners who contributed to this positive step forward for our fishermen and our economy. 🇲🇻🇬🇧
Delighted to arrive in New Delhi on my first Official Visit.

Maldives Police are right to investigate & raid the news outlet over false “Zina” allegations against the President. Press freedom is guaranteed, but not a free pass to destroy reputations with lies. Constitution of Maldives:
• Art 27: Freedom of expression (not contrary to tenets of Islam).
• Art 28: Freedom of the media to publish news & views.
• Art 33: Everyone has the right to protect one’s reputation and good name.
Spreading fabricated serious accusations is not journalism. Police are upholding the rule of law and the President’s constitutional rights.
Responsible freedom comes with accountability. No one is above the law.
Ethical journalism must ensure quality information, promote accountability and transparency while upholding the principles of democracy. When ethics are forgone, it creates misinformation, maximizes harm, and can create unrest among people who rely on journalists to report the news accurately. I urge journalists to be more responsible in disseminating information and to remain committed to the core principles of journalism.
@NickDLow The Maldives remains committed to constitutional media freedoms and the rule of law. Like many countries, including the UK, it continues to manage complex issues around regulation and law enforcement, but these should not be used to mischaracterise legitimate domestic processes.
