"Anybody but Jalen - make someone else shoot the ball"
De'Aaron Fox on the Spurs' defense against Jalen Brunson in Game 1 and how they'll approach the rest of the series
@T4C4L@natfluential Okay so let’s wrap this up. We’re concluding Magic, Jordan, IT, Kobe, Wade, Curry, and SGA as the only guards to be the focal point to a championship team (2/7 are under 6’3”). History doesn’t support guards in general. Doesn’t mean they can’t win. Have a good night.
@T4C4L@natfluential First of all, you replied to me. My original point was that it’s stupid to say a team can’t be successful if they have a small guard. History shows you win with dominance, doesn’t matter the height of the point guard. I don’t understand how you don’t comprehend that.
@T4C4L@natfluential Nobody said Tony was “the guy” over Duncan overall. The point is Parker was the offensive focal point of that specific Finals/playoff run. Duncan was still the best overall player, defender, and franchise cornerstone. Both can be true.
@T4C4L@natfluential I’ll make this point again: ~50% of NBA championships since 1970 were won by teams led by consensus top 10 all-time players. History doesn’t show you need size at PG. History shows you either need an all-time player or an elite team structure.
@T4C4L@natfluential Parker led the team in scoring in the 2007 playoffs. He averaged 24.5 PPG in the Finals and won Finals MVP. The offense increasingly ran through Parker penetration/PnR instead of pure Duncan post-ups. Duncan was the face of the team and the defensive anchor.
@T4C4L@natfluential You’re just reiterating other people’s takes from twitter. I’ve seen hundreds of posts saying the same shit as you. You get your info from twitter, you don’t actually understand the history.
@T4C4L@natfluential Billups was the leader of that team, same with Parker. And they both won FMVP. The only guards you listed were on a dynasty or are considered a top 10 player of all time.
@T4C4L@natfluential You named multiple top 10-15 players/teams in NBA history. That doesn’t prove a 6’2 guard can’t be a 1A.
Isiah. Steph. Parker/Billups have arguments too. Size isn’t the disqualifier, it’s the roster/talent.
