The biggest loser of the night is Vic Fangio.
Not because he’s not good enough, but because Nick Sirianni wasted one of the franchises best defenses because he wanted to hire his butt-buddy as offensive coordinator instead of hiring an actual professional mind.
I’m sorry, Vic.
I am a big believer in this too. I do think this whole red card reversal that turned political killed the vibe and that honestly it should have just been left as is. Once that happened the energy shifted and the aura of this team didn’t feel the same
People will think I'm crazy for this take, but I'm a big believer in the psychological impact of narratives on teams. Yes, Belgium looked so much better tonight and we looked lost. But this team had a boatload of good vibes behind them, and in the last 48 hours that vanished, and replacing it was a story of implicit political corruption that turned them into the bad guys, or at least the beneficiary of the corruption. You can't tell me that doesn't put pressure on the team, change the vibe, and take a psychological toll that impacted what happened on the field. American fans, serious and casual, should be pissed at this interference. We overturned a red card and our reward was losing what made this team so much fun until now.
For 90% of the game, Haaland just lurks around. He hardly even pays attention to the ball.
But then - out of a sudden - at the exact right moment, he awakens, scores a historic goal, and immediately goes back to lurking around.
He cannot be replicated.
💥NEW: Stephen A. Smith on SCOTUS birthright citizenship ruling🇺🇸
"I'm not sure I agree with that decision ... if folks are coming over here unlawfully and illegally intending to give birth on American soil just to ensure that their child is an American citizen, I don't have a problem with that being challenged."
"You gotta control the borders. You have to. Every other nation does it. We should be able to do it too."
why don't they just pause the clock when play stops instead of mysteriously tracking (?) time lost during the game and then adding that time (??) at the end
The idea that a pregnant woman from Guatemala can sprint across the US border, have the baby 30 minutes after arriving here, and the baby is magically a citizen of the US, is one of the most retarded and indefensible notions ever conceived
Soccer will never be popular in America.
What we’re seeing with the World Cup is a fad. Within months we will be addicted to the NFL again.
Here’s why:
- Soccer isn’t violent enough.
- There’s way too much whining which goes against the American DNA.
- The refs and rules seem incredibly arbitrary.
- It’s in American to have a sports game end in a draw. It’s just wrong.
- Hard to monetize. TV ads are nonexistent. I actually like this element but our American economy does not.
- Did I mention there’s too much whining and faked injuries?
Basically, what I’m saying is that soccer is a pretty wimpy sport. You can hate me for saying this but you know it’s the truth.
I will continue enjoying the World Cup but we all know what happens next.
Back to normal life!
