Hello Nairobi 👋
Our monthly BitDevs meetup is almost here, we have some interesting topics around Bitcoin Core and Opensource mining and advancement in Bitcoin layer 2. Seee you soon @NodeNBO 🫡⚡️

Attended @drunkenlectures Mashilingi na Manoti. Learnt about the history of the Kenyan shilling and the turbulences: Goldenberg..
Also, words you should expect in my vocabulary from now: GDP, fiscal policy, public debt, quantitative easing 😅
Such a thoughtfully curated space.
The University of Nairobi has been declared technically insolvent due to Sh20 billion in debt.
The debt is linked to reduced government funding, high operating costs and unpaid bills, including staff pensions
This was truly one of the most packed hackathons I’ve ever been a part of, learnt so much, interacted with brilliance, got to meet OG mentors in the space (*wink @tando_me@btrustteam@hack4_freedom ) built with #NOSTR (soo many NIPS)
Just lovely 😊
We are thrilled to announce Kimberley Sandra @Nyaaaaaaals as one of the speakers at the Africa Bitcoin Conference in Blantyre, Malawi.
Kimberley Sandra is a Kenyan Bitcoin policy and regulatory affairs practitioner focused on the intersection of Bitcoin, financial regulation, and financial inclusion in Africa.
She has worked across the African Bitcoin ecosystem, with experience spanning regulatory intelligence, compliance, policy research, ecosystem development, and operations. At Bitika, a Kenyan Bitcoin on-ramp, Kimberley worked on AML and compliance frameworks, regulatory engagement, data protection, and the development of Bitcoin infrastructure connecting mobile money users to Bitcoin.
Her work has also involved regulatory and policy research across several African markets, including Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, and South Africa. She is particularly interested in how African regulatory frameworks can respond to Bitcoin in ways that reflect local financial systems, economic realities, and patterns of adoption.
Kimberley’s research and advocacy focuses on Bitcoin policy, financial sovereignty, and the transition from Bitcoin adoption toward Bitcoin industrialisation in Africa. She is interested in what happens when Bitcoin moves beyond individual users and becomes part of the infrastructure supporting payments, commerce, savings, capital formation, and economic participation.
She is currently focused on building deeper expertise at the intersection of Bitcoin policy, regulatory intelligence, and institutional engagement across Africa.
Don’t miss any of her session at ABC2026.

And just like that, The @hack4_freedom Hackathon Nairobi came to an end! 🇰🇪
After two weeks of learning, technical sessions, virtual bootcamp sessions, collaboration and building, the participants finally got to put everything into practice during the Hackathon.
Demo Day was a celebration of the ideas they developed, the problems they explored, and the solutions they built together.
And we’re especially proud to celebrate our Dadas who showed up, built, collaborated and made their mark. 🧡

This happened in the middle of night US time, but in case you missed it @ocean_mining participants had a fairly amazing streak hitting 4 out of 5 blocks. When you mine with a pool that used TIDES (or PPLNS) payouts, this is really good news.
Thank you @btrustteam for the support. 🖤
Thank you @DadaDevs for laying the foundation that started this journey. Thank you @btrust_builders and @BitDevsNBO for the community, knowledge & opportunities.
We keep building.
We’re excited to announce the Q3 2026 Btrust developer grant recipients. 🚀
Ten Bitcoin open-source developers are receiving support: five starter grant recipients and five long-term open-source cohort members.
This quarter also marks an important first: Btrust developer grants are going directly to developers outside Africa. Through our recent expansion of long-term grants across the Global Majority, we’re now supporting developers in Brazil 🇧🇷 and India 🇮🇳.
Their work, alongside that of recipients in Nigeria 🇳🇬 and Kenya 🇰🇪, spans @bitcoincoreorg, mining ⛏️ infrastructure, Lightning⚡, wallet libraries, and privacy-preserving payments.
Meet the recipients and learn about their work:
Reminder!! Our upcoming event is still on we have exciting lineup ahead, come learn mining and get to know more about the intrinsics of bitshoka and mujina. We also have product demo from Kesh Labs on building on bitcoin&lightning ⚡️. See you soon..RSVP https://t.co/IQ5Gex2eGX
