@hiporsha #edu6323 this healthy skepticism could be why faculty and educators are so reluctant to include it - lack of awareness or research on actual outcomes. They see these technologies used in popular culture and don't make the connection to learning. Need to make it part of their PLN!
#EDU6323 Working in education abroad, I see the Mesh as an opportunity and a threat. As a way to create access to experiences, but perhaps also a way to make experiences hierarchical β did you go to the real Rome or the Mesh Rome? A lot to think about here!
@nlgrrt @vidyaven19#edu6323 it inspires trust, which is the foundation of collaboration & the fuel of transparency (Day). Reminds me its better to have human/class/campus values vs culture, which creates boundaries & maintains status quo. Values on syllabus learning outcomes or rules of engagement?
@KimWestemeier#edu6323 I agree and like that he takes a risk and makes himself vulnerable and open to change. I wonder how this would work when teaching about other topics that don't change as much or aren't on students' radar.
#edu6323 Wesch uses his students in his PNL and builds, maintains and activates this network through videos and course design creating a culture of a growth mindset and building community within the network. They all learn from each other, which is key in an ever-changing world.
@bwatwood@charcua2school@navelos#edu6323 For asynchronous courses, I wonder if instructors could capture data over time or over multiple iterations of a course against which students could measure their success. Setting deadlines for responses could be helpful too.
@MichelJenning16@StevenC28591147#edu6323 it can also help set a routine or habit for the course and set expectations for how the course will go each day. While diverse lesson plans are also important to keeping students engaged, I agree polling at the start can help set the stage for the day.
@MichelJenning16@Victori11777780#edu6323 absolutely agree - polling can also establish a classroom community through which students can get a sense of where they fall on a spectrum of whatever is being polled and what they might need to work on.
#edu6323 polling can help gauge what students already know so instructors can build off of knowledge effectively increasing retention of content and motivation.
@dmg_miller@Victori11777780#edu6323 Has anyone read the book or seen the movie, The Circle? It looks at these ideas of privacy and how it is counterproductive or even selfish to society by hiding our learning experiences. Highly recommended and relevant to this discussion and tech in our society!
@bwatwood@imiyapan I agree! Also getting inspired to travel! I also appreciate videos from the professors in the online courses as a way of humanizing faculty too! #edu6323
@navelos@imiyapan@dmg_miller@madrock25@bwatwood#edu6323 how can you use these new platforms (snapchat, instagram stories) for teaching and learning when the videos aren't saved for future reference and use - a key aspect of retention? Are they more for community building?
@dmg_miller#edu6323 I think it could be a good way to find new ideas for lesson plans for lower-level college courses or primary/secondary ed. Diigo seems more useful for organizing academic journals and articles though.
#EDU6323 I use Pinterest mostly for fun, so it was interesting to see how it could be used for a more academic endeavor. Also enjoyed learning about Daphne Koller https://t.co/oW9mnEqha1
