@NateSilver538 I mean, the Knicks are the biggest media market and haven't won in 53 years. The spurs area tiny media market and have won 5 times since the Knicks made the finals. The NBA has to prefer for the Knicks to win, right? RIGHT?
@JYuter To be fair, I once asked why my paper wasn't an A.
He pointed at a guy and said "well, it's an A for him. Or him or him. But it's a C- for you."
Kid: "Abba, why don't we say tachanun today?"
Me: "You know how when Isru Chag is on Thursday Misrad Hachinuch gives you a Gesher to Sunday?"

This passage from @MattiFriedman’s excellent new book is one of the most 🎯 things I’ve read in a while. He nails what so many of us have felt for years but couldn’t quite name — what’s been done to Anne Frank’s memory, and what it says about how Jews are allowed to be remembered
I vividly remember when my dad took me (7) to my 1st game and we walked from the darkest concrete tunnel to the brightest sun and greenest grass I had ever seen. It took my breath away.
My kids won't experience that because they removed the inside tunnel wall to sell more nachos.
I think it’s a universal opinion that the old Yankee Stadium was a better baseball cathedral than the new one.
That said, I don’t think there was a realistic fix to the issues that plague the new Yankee Stadium.
The corporatizing of Yankee Stadium was going to happen no matter what. There was just too much money being left on the table for it not to happen.
Building the new stadium may have accelerated the transition by a few years. It gave the Yankees more options to sell to large corporations and a new ability to price out regular people from the premier seats in the new stadium.
But in a city like New York that’s built on a corporate economy, there was no avoiding a premier destination like Yankee Stadium eventually succumbing to that dynamic.
The Yankees now have an alternate uniform. Per MLB, the navy blue batting practice tops are part of the official uniform set and have been approved to be worn in games.
Paragraph 3 of the Shema prayer speaks of "the good land that the Lord is giving you" and tells Jews to steer clear of idolatry (I'm simplifying) "so that your days and the days of your children may be multiplied on the land that the Lord swore to your ancestors to give them, like the days of the heavens over the earth."
I don't think @mehdirhasan "loves the Shema." I think he asked ChatGPT to name an important Jewish prayer and picked the first one on the list.
@JYuter This has been a problem for me as a Baal koreh.
It is unclear to me if telling the Gabbai I can't say the bracha, causing someone else to do it "for me" is lifnei iver...

As Israel turns 78, the country’s population stands at 10.2 million, up 1.4% from last year, one of the highest growth rates in the Western world.
If having a baby is an expression of hope, then clearly Israelis, with the highest birthrate by far among developed countries, are an optimistic bunch.
Despite the events of recent years, Israel was ranked the eighth-happiest country in the world, according to the World Happiness Index released last month.
