Two years ago, my friend Arsalan watched as US troops evacuated and the Taliban returned. Despite having worked for the international community for a decade, he was left behind. Now The Last Days of the Afghan Republic tells his story and the story of other Afghans like him.

What Does the International Community Want from the Taliban?
Two years after the US withdrawal, international indecision has increased Afghan suffering and made the Taliban stronger.

It is difficult to overstate the chaos of August 2021 for those in Afghanistan. Noah Coburn @NoahSCoburn @AtBennington @RLPGBooks discusses the ways in which the U.S. presence unevenly reshaped Afghan society https://t.co/81bCzKcUxY #Afghanistan#politics#politicalscience #MiddleEast
This one is generating a lot of comments.
I *think* I know how they're getting there -- by counting primary applicants and their dependents.

#Taliban's Minister of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice: "From now on #women cannot go to Band-e Amir (national park). People want this, Islam wants this, Ulema want this, AmirUlMuminin wants this & God wants this."
NO! It is only Taliban & Taliban alone, who wants this
Many Afghan women have described Afghanistan under the Taliban as an open-air prison for women and girls. This alarming development shows that’s no exaggeration.
Today marks the commemoration of the 9-year anniversary since the massacre in my village, Kocho. Our community lost everything: families and friends, homes, and hope. We grieve for all that we have lost and continue to search for those who are still missing, while fighting for justice on every level. We will honor our loved ones and advocate every day to create a safer future for the #Yazidi people.
🇦🇫 15 August 2021- Painful to remember. It gets deeper, uglier & intolerable day by day.I miss Afghanistan, I miss Kabul, I miss home,I miss taking local taxi for work,I miss working late nights to finish work, I miss going out with friends & family,I miss myself 😞.
Today marks two years of the #Taliban's return to power in Afghanistan, with an unprecedented track record of human rights abuses and violations.

Two years since the dark resurgence of the Taliban, the heartbreaking truth remains: gender apartheid persists, gasping its dehumanizing grip on women. Let's stand together to acknowledge the ongoing institutionalized and systematic discrimination against women.
We must!
Opening doors (in Kabul at times), engaging the authorities (some), pushing for policy change that unjustifiably ban high school/college girls’ education and work for female aid workers. There are other pressing issues, but these hurtful policies have no basis/justification & need rethinking & re-consulting across the board - not just with a select grouping not representing all communities/religious constituencies. Now that the education system is ready for new orders, a qualified shura can help resolve this critical issue.
