A truly heartbreaking decision to hear from Disney. As a collector, I absolutely adore having physical copies of my favorite media.
Physical Media will always be important, no matter what 📀❤️
Disney gutting its entire home entertainment division can't be good for the future of physical media, even if Sony is distributing those titles. Doesn't surprise me why we never got updates on new D+ titles on 4K and Blu-ray.
Terrible to see all those job cuts across all departments.
I’m EXTREMELY concerned that Disney gutted the ENTIRE home entertainment department.
Sounds like we need to stock up on physical media of Disney features while we can.
If you worked all year to afford a $7,400 family vacation to Disney World, you paid more to Disney than it paid in federal income taxes this year after making an $8.3 billion profit, spending $7 billion on stock buybacks & paying its CEO (Bob Iger) $45.8 million in compensation.
Disney has laid off its entire Home Entertainment team (via @TheWrap).
As streaming continues to dominate, physical media like DVDs and Blu-rays are no longer a major focus.
These companies want their artists to have a degree from a 200k prestige art school, years of experience, and an exceptional (relevant) portfolio in order to get an entry level art position- but they don’t even have the decency to keep us on for more than 6 months at a time.
