A former Trump official who says vaccines are safe and effective is one step closer to leading the CDC.

The Senate health committee advanced Dr. Erica Schwartz’s nomination on July 30. She previously served as the Coast Guard’s chief medical officer and deputy surgeon general.

Sen. Tim Kaine joined Republicans in the vote. Schwartz told senators she believes vaccines are safe and effective, including mRNA shots, earning support from chairman Bill Cassidy.

Some allies of Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. objected. The full Senate still must confirm her.

The panel also advanced Sean Kaufman for a preparedness post after assurances he will stay out of vaccine policy.

Chinese silver imports rose +78% MoM, to a record ~836 tonnes in March.

This is +173% above the 10-year seasonal average for March.

Year-to-date, silver imports are up to ~1,626 tonnes, the highest on record.

Surging demand was driven by retail investors purchasing small silver bars as a lower-cost alternative to gold, and solar manufacturers front-loading production ahead of the removal of export tax rebates on April 1st.
