Aggregating and amplifying the voices of artists in the city. Let's build a more imaginative and autonomous arts ecology. #brisvisarts#wedontneedgatekeepers
@ace_southwest WE DO NOT NEED GATEKEEPERS. We can and do convene our own meetings, forums and networks. We share practice, we collectivise. We'd like more support and resources to do this work. #wedontneedgatekeepers#brisvisarts
Visual Artist in Bristol? We're putting together proposals for how artists and the city can be better supported by @ace_southwest. Let us know if you'd like to feed in! #wedontneedgatekeepers#brisvisarts
We're putting together ideas for how things could work differently in Bristol, inc. revolving boards of artist-run projects. Interesting to see @thewhitepube musing along similar lines! #wedontneedgatekeepers#brisvisarts https://t.co/I4lThx9G7I
"Using #wedontneedgatekeepers, the volume, strength and intensity of these previously unheard voices quickly overtook other, generally appeasing posts using the official hashtag #brisvisarts" https://t.co/IU5HjRccFZ
#wedontneedgatekeepers: "artists were allowed at the table – but only if they shared it with museum directors, curators, producers and anyone else with a passing interest" #BrisVisArts#Bristol https://t.co/IU5HjRccFZ
On rethinking how we fund Bristol arts.... How can artists & artist led initatives be better supported? What is the role of organisations and funders? I don't think it's as simple as us and them. Keen to know more about new models being suggested @an_artnews https://t.co/uZAhdDu5An
@FinalBullet I've been raging against so-called admin fees for ages! There's big institutional culprits in the U.K. too. There is not £25-£30 of admin in assessing each open submission. Even at £20 ph (nearly 3x min wage) I KNOW few to zero places are spending an hour+ on each applicant.
@FinalBullet Anyone with any sense just asks for something to help them tell if they and the anticipated audience is likely to enjoy the artist's work. Full proposals at the first stage are wasted, duplicate effort and stress the recipients out too.
"At least two institutional directors commented that burn-out was perfectly normal and to be expected"- then shame on them. Burn out, depression and stress are mental health problems that should be taken seriously, not patronisingly assumed to be the price of being creative. https://t.co/d5Qawg3gQQ
It is also chronically underused. Kitted out to a high spec by @ace_southwest @ArnolfiniArts @_SpikeIsland and @BristolCouncil in 2006 for British Art Show 6, it has, despite repeated calls from artists to be used for art, been used to store... Road signs #wedontneedgatekeepers https://t.co/IAItAUy6Ou
Artists set out their take on the recent @ace_southwest Bristol Open Space day #wedontneedgatekeepers#BrisVisArts Challenge to @ace_national is to ensure artists and artist led organisations are given equal access to the Review team!! https://t.co/c4dOwwDpc9
And from this collective resistance we must build an inclusive, collective network that enables artists based in the city and artists new to or passing through the city #wedontneedgatekeepers@juliemccalden @empreshelonious @TestSpaceSpike@BristolBEEF https://t.co/dUX5dkBiRg
