Economics is fundamentally political. We cannot escape this fact.

The so-called “free market” is constructed by laws, maintained by institutions, and enforced by states.

The choice between austerity and stimulus reflects deeper beliefs about responsibility, fairness, and social obligation.

The mandates of central banks are products of political decisions. The emphasis placed on price stability in Western central banks rather than, say, regulating private finance reflects value judgments as well as political lobbying.

One of the biggest differences between mainstream economics and heterodox economics is that the former often disguises political choices as technical ones.

Economics has never been, and never will be, a value-free science, no matter how much today's mainstream economics tries to present it that way.

At its core, economics is shaped by ideologies, human morality, competing interests, social norms, and political priorities. Pretending otherwise does not make economics more rigorous. It just makes it more dangerous.

Pi Pocket 0.14 is out!

This one's a big one. The goal was to make Pocket a clean base anyone can build on, so most new stuff can just be extensions and themes now instead of changes to Pocket itself. Fork maintainers rejoice, the extension API is stable from here on, so most of what you forked for can just be an extension now.

Extensions can add pages, buttons, routes and slash commands right into the app, and Pi can build them for you. In the video I had it build itself a live team board, straight from the docs.

Also new: Agent Teams, an extension gallery (pinned, hashed, and off until you turn it on), themes that can change the whole layout, and a refreshed look.

Pocket is built on Pi Durable, so a huge thanks to @badlogicgames and @pidotdev for Pi, Pi Durable, and the foundation that let us build a cool thing.

And this release wouldn't be what it is without the community. 13 people, 12 PRs and 15 issues went into 0.14. Thank you all!

I hate to be the one to burst the Tesla bubble today, but the spectacular “flight” we witnessed at the Roadster reveal needs a little context. The car is carrying around 250kg of compressed air, plus the weight of the tanks, valves and thrusters needed to contain and release it.

Based on the published figures, that gives it roughly 1.5–2 seconds of maximum thrust before the system needs to be refilled.

In short, it's a gimmick.

- Amazon has over 20 years of my shopping history, reviews, ratings, returns, views, everything. Yet, their landing page has zero idea about what I want. I find interesting products there only from somewhere else.

- Spotify has over decade of my music history, every songs I played, liked, skipped, put in playlist, everything. Yet, their landing page has dumbest generic unfathomably crappy recommendations.

- Netflix has over 20+ years of history of my movies and documentaries plays. I even religiously rated everything to help them out. They do have content that I would totally jump on. Yet, they completely fail at surfacing it. Every good thing on Netflix I discovered was accidentally from someone. I downgrade their sub once a year ritually after finding nothing interesting on landing page.

Moral of the story: Never underestimate big tech’s utter incompetence despite sitting on goldmine of data, army of engineers and mountain of cash.

1. It formalizes a different problem than claimed. Straightforward to catch for an expert, but OpenAI didn't bother checking.
2. The LEAN proof is fine, but has nothing to do with the natural language paper describing it.
