In Bulgaria today, where I am deeply honored to have received the Golden Medal of Merit from the Bulgarian Red Cross @BGRedCross. It was a privilege to meet with the President, Director General, and Chief Secretary of the National Society, as well as the dedicated staff members and inspiring young volunteers.
This experience took me back to when I first joined the Red Cross at the age of 13. Seeing the passion and commitment in today’s young volunteers reminds me of my own journey and the incredible opportunities that lie ahead for them.
Who knows? Perhaps one of them will become the Secretary General of the IFRC one day!

As the conflict escalated last year, they moved to Slovakia - most of them without parents. A local sport organization had offered them support.

Being a single mother of a child with special needs is hard enough. Imagine also having to flee home and starting over in a new country.
Still, Olga is grateful to the people of Slovakia who welcomed them with love, and to the Slovak Red Cross for its relentless support.
