@nhannahjones@thomaschattwill That he successfully called the shot is an indication that you maybe ought to take his analyses more seriously generally. The obvious thing for you to do here would be to reread other things he’s written more charitably
@SamaHoole@TimONeill007 > The law took his bow, his dog's toes and his right to the wood, then left him entirely free to work out the rest for himself.
They were not free to work out the rest for themselves. Hunting deer and boar in royal forests was explicitly banned.
@No5mallf3at@michaeloburns@tealou Here's a paper broadly in the EA sphere that I read recently: https://t.co/3xUU7h3VQn
Where's the propaganda for liberalism here? In what sense is it's model of efficiency capital?
@TheAnnaGat Interimtellect’s ‘About’ page has a section titled ‘A Community of Humans’ and then describes aspects of the Interintellect product. What is the ‘community’ denoted by the header of not the product itself?
@DougJBalloon Do you have some examples of Lukianoff whining about ad hominem attacks in analogous situations? (e.g. where the target was saying something as silly as you were in the OP) or are you shadowboxing?
@DougJBalloon@jessesingal What are a few cases that you think FIRE litigated something against the left but where there was an analogous case where they declined to litigate against the right? Do you have specifics, or just vibes?
@DougJBalloon@jessesingal The free speech people in this case are the subjects of the article. You think they’re soft on Trump because they aren’t saying ‘hey everyone, look at the article we’re in’?
@mattyglesias I drew a woman born in the Mississippi valley in 1929, practiced Christianity, worked various jobs, and died of a heart attack at age 68. Very close to my grandma’s actual life.
@djsteveasaurus@Gaffe4Giraffe@ASFleischman The issue is that the complexity of the institutions they want instead of prisons has little to do with the rationale for prisons. e.g. if I ask a socialist what they want instead of capitalism, they actually can answer that without knowing why I might prefer capitalism.
@djsteveasaurus@ASFleischman It's not clear why they need Fleischman to say why he wants prisons to tailor a response. He wanted to know what sort of institutions abolitionists want. Abolitionists ought to be able to answer that in a way that's agnostic to why people want prisons.
