I'm privileged to be heading to #COP25 in Madrid in the upcoming weeks. I'll be live tweeting official negotiations, side events, and general impressions of the @UNFCCC conference as it progresses. #MNCOP25
The evidence is clear: the time for action is now. We can halve emissions by 2030.
The #IPCC has just released its latest #ClimateReport on the mitigation of #climatechange.

I'm part of a team that has been studying #groundwater and the people, networks, and institutions involved in governing it across the #GreatLakes region, and we're excited to report out. Mark your calendars! #water#WorldWaterDay
Parties have largely been careful to not officially call out the bad actors in any of the sessions I have been in. The High Ambition Coalition just changed that: called out the US, Australia, and Brazil specifically for disrupting negotiations. #COP25#MNCOP25@ClimateGenOrg
@JenWenKad The German Pavillion in hall 6 has free coffee available for most of the day, it was very necessary during week 1! Negotiation sessions generally won’t start until ~10 mins after scheduled so theres time to check out events during that period and decide what is most interesting
I’m headed back stateside, but for more #COP25 tweets make sure to follow the Minnesota delegation at #MNCOP25! I’ll be remotely tracking session draft (and eventually hopefully final) documents as they’re released, particularly on #Art6. See you next time @UNFCCC!
At an informal consultation on the #Warsaw mechanism on Loss and Damage, parties are discussing the efficacy of developing new structures to provide financial and technical support or mobilizing more strategically within existing frameworks

This is another thing that the last minute location change from #Chile to #Madrid likely impacted—which countries would have had greater representation if #COP25 had been held in the Global South as planned?
#COP25 takes an incredible amount of stamina, even as an observer. There are 12.5 hours of back to back scheduled meetings every day for 2 weeks. Negotiators often stay long past this. Benefits of having a large delegation are clear—any amount of rest is valuable here #MNCOP25
Negotiation teams with more members can divide the load; smaller teams—often from LDCs with less resources/capacity and greater vulnerability to #climatechange—must advocate for the planet and their futures nearly 24/7 here
It’s Saturday morning, my last day at #COP25 @COP25CL. There are fewer observer org members here today than there have been during the week, but negotiators are still hard at work. Draft text revisions of #Art6 of #ParisAgreement are underway&anticipated for Mon morning
#MNCOP25
It’s fascinating to observe the editing of draft decision texts. Every word, comma &space is precisely negotiated. At a session I just left, a sentence shorter than a tweet was debated for over a half hour. Decisions about how to address #ClimateChange aren’t made rashly
#MNCOP25
I don’t think I’ve attended a single negotiation so far that hasn’t run out of time for parties to speak at #COP25. For #article6, yet another session of what was supposed to be a single hour of negotiations will start in about 45 minutes. #MNCOP25
It’s Friday morning at #COP25 in Madrid, and chants from youth demonstrations and #strikeforclimate demanding #climateaction have permeated the halls since 9 am.
“It is time to increase ambitions to meet the goals set under the Paris Agreement. It is high time to make sure marginalized voices are heard and respected, even & especially when they are unable to attend.”
@ClimateGenOrg will be posting my first #COP25 blog tomorrow AM #MNCOP25
At a high level plenary on pre-2020 #GlobalStocktake. Speakers emphasize that while #climate finance is progressing, total amount and distribution proportions still need to improve — currently only 19% is for #adaptation. #COP25#MNCOP25
Response: the gap is closing because of public interest and policy maker attention, but IPCC is walking a fine line of providing unbiased and complete information about pros and cons of every element of and potential response to #climatechange
