The NRC has started the second round DDR process in three temporary demobilization centers in the Amhara region. In this round, more than 6,000 ex-combatants will be registered, supported through tailored rehabilitation trainings, the provision of national standard reinsertion packages, followed by coordinated reintegration processes in collaboration with federal and regional stakeholders and international partners. To date, over 74,000 ex-combatants across four regions have participated in the DDR program, taking significant steps toward rebuilding their civilian lives and contributing to the peace and stability of their communities.@UNDPEthiopia@SweinEthiopia@AUC_PAPS@GerEmbAddis@NorwayinAddis@UKinEthiopia@EUinEthiopia@KoreainEthiopia@ItalyinEthiopia@IndiaInEthiopia@GbaydeeDoe@USEmbassyAddis@JoshuaTabah@FranceinEth@Denmark_Addis@EmbSpainAddis
The NRC, in collaboration with the Folke Bernadotte Academy of Sweden-FBA, is conducting a three-day Training of Trainers focused on Reintegration, Entrepreneurship, and Job Opportunities for Ex-Combatants. Participants include representatives from NRC headquarters, branch offices, and demobilization centre staff alongside relevant federal and regional stakeholders. This training forms a critical component of the ongoing DDR process-reintegration, which is particularly complex and demands an innovative, multi-stakeholder approach to ensure sustainable outcomes. The training, hence, aims to enhance coordination, build technical capacity, experience sharing and foster collaborative solutions among key actors to support successful reintegration pathways for former combatants. By strengthening institutional and operational capabilities, this initiative also seeks to contribute meaningfully to peacebuilding, social cohesion, and long-term stability in Ethiopia.@FBAFolke@HLundquist@UNDPEthiopia
We convened our regular Program Implementation Review Meeting with the DDR Partners Task Force. To date, more than 56,000 former combatants have been demobilized and successfully reinserted into their communities across four regions—over 45,000 of them from Tigray. This represents a major milestone in the implementation of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (CoHA) and a critical step forward in our collective pursuit of lasting peace and stability in Ethiopia.
Across all regions, coordinated and sustained efforts continue among all relevant stakeholders to support the social and economic reintegration of former combatants. With ongoing partnership and unwavering commitment, we look forward to the successful completion of Phase One of the program in Tigray within the next two months. @UNDPEthiopia@SweinEthiopia@AUC_PAPS@GerEmbAddis@NorwayinAddis@UKinEthiopia@EUinEthiopia@KoreainEthiopia@ItalyinEthiopia@IndiaInEthiopia@GbaydeeDoe@USEmbassyAddis@JoshuaTabah@FranceinEth@Denmark_Addis
I had a constructive conversation with Mr. Graham Maitland, UN Director for the Eastern African Division of the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Operations. We exchanged views on the Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) program and the vital role of UN support. We underscored the importance of coordinated efforts to ensure sustainable peace in Ethiopia, the region, and the continent at large. Mr. Maitland reaffirmed the UN’s continued commitment to supporting the full implementation of the DDR process. @UNDPEthiopia@GbaydeeDoe@UNinEthiopa
The operationalization of the third demobilization center in the Tigray region marks a significant milestone in accelerating the Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) process. This advancement will enhance the NRC’s ability to ensure the timely and effective implementation of the program. We continue to call on all partners and stakeholders involved in the DDR process to reaffirm their commitment and contributions. Sustained support is crucial not only for the successful execution of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement but also for long-term peacebuilding efforts throughout Ethiopia and the wider Horn of Africa. @UNDPEthiopia@SweinEthiopia@AUC_PAPS@GerEmbAddis@NorwayinAddis@UKinEthiopia@EUinEthiopia@KoreainEthiopia@ItalyinEthiopia@IndiaInEthiopia@GbaydeeDoe@USEmbassyAddis@JoshuaTabah
