As we combat #Covid19 with the distribution of vaccines worldwide, let’s look back at how Massachusetts encountered—and contended with—another historically deadly pandemic. Smallpox was one of the deadliest diseases, with up to 30% of cases resulting in death. Thread/13
While you’re “giving thanks” for the good things happening in your life, don’t forget to thank yourself.
SOMEBODY had to hang in there and guess who that was?
YOU.
@cmclymer Without GW’s inoculation mandate, the Continental Army would have lost to smallpox, not the British. Vaccine history is intertwined with American history. @MindandCulture https://t.co/dPwk0ncGQs
all of us, every single one of us, without exception, are trying to figure out the meaning of our lives and the why behind it all. all of us are just trying our best, in our own way, to make sense of it all.
be kinder. be gentler.
@DugganNicki My physician was shocked when I said I could pop both my ears whenever. Apparently it means there’s fluid buildup in your sinuses, creating pressure on your eardrums!
I was today years old when I learned you should not be able to pop your ears at all times. Lol I’ll be taking a steroid nasal spray for the next few weeks
An article I was first author on was submitted to the New England Journal of Medicine. It was swiftly rejected, but I still feel like a badass.
A degree in photography from a state school in Montana really can set you on a (completely erratic and unpredictable) career path 💫
Dear Young Adults,
You can leave.
If you don’t like your doctor, walk out in the middle of your appointment.
Leave the party. End the date. Don’t wait until the “polite” time to leave or endure because you think you’ll make a scene.
You can go.
@queenhotdog2 This is very insightful, thank you! Especially for people like me who have never been around gymnastics and only see glimpses at the Olympics. We glorify the success of athletes who have worked extremely hard since childhood without acknowledging the tremendous toll it takes
@MayaJ_RF If Adobe Fresco is compatible, it’s a great app! That’s what I started with on my iPad for illustration. It’s free but I do think you have to have an existing Adobe subscription. Procreate is phenomenal and only $10 but I think it’s only available for the iPad.
