@Zigmanfreud The climate scientists are predicting a "Super El Niño" this coming winter for California with large rain and snowfall. How does this square with the scientists' predictions of California drought because of climate change?

@Zigmanfreud You may have seen this. SMR = Small Modular (Nuclear) Reactor. Facebook, Google, Microsoft, and others are doing similar things with nuclear power.

@atomicnews@CSIS@nuclear94@whatisnuclear I believe Iran was building a test reactor that would have been capable of producing weapons-grade Pu, but that reactor was never completed. I think it was part of the previous JCPOA agreement to shut down that project.
@Atomicrod Why have the Army take the lead for installing SMRs at military bases? Doesn't the Navy have a lot more experience with nuclear? The Navy already has trained nuclear operators and technicians. This doesn't make sense to me.
@Zigmanfreud California water reservoirs appear to be in good shape at the beginning of summer. Shasta at 92% level, Oroville at 99%, Castaic at 95%.

Will you report on the Yosemite water situation soon?
@adamcurry@THErealDVORAK The linked article below refers to the origin of the TANSTAAFL phrase, but more importantly shows how nuclear energy is the best.

@evergypower I was wondering if these new power plants will utilize carbon capture and storage? The EPA regulations for new gas plants seems to require that?
@Dateline_DC @jimgeraghty Just one criticism. The nuclear plants in the southeast US stand up to hurricanes just fine. For example, the Turkey Point plant in Florida took a direct hit from hurricane Andrew in 1992 with only minor damage. See report here: https://t.co/LkQduqoyJf
Same for earthquakes.
@Zigmanfreud Listening to your latest podcast...
The sun does indeed warm the oceans. Think about why the tropical oceans are warmer than the arctic ocean. The sun warms the oceans, and the CO2 and water vapor reflect infra-red radiation back to the earth (the greenhouse effect)
@Dateline_DC It's only October, but perhaps @jimgeraghty needs an early Christmas present. You could get him a new office chair that doesn't squeak so much. Or should I discuss with @RichLowry on this?
@energybants@AngelicaOung@OskaArcher@DombroskiMike@NukeModerator @MattJasica I'm sending to people who might know. On the BWRX-300, how is water returned to the reactor on a LOCA? Steam will condense in containment with PCCS, but is reactor refilled? How is fuel kept cool?
@gehnuclear On the BWRX-300, during a LOCA, I understand how the escaped steam is condensed in containment with the PCCS, but how is that water then returned to the reactor? How do you ensure the fuel is kept covered with water during a LOCA?
@subschneider@Atomicrod@atomicnews@djysrv Can anyone explain how, on the BWRX-300, during a LOCA, how the condensed steam is returned to the reactor vessel? Or how the fuel is kept covered with water during a LOCA? The escaped steam will condense with PCCS, but does it return?
@Zigmanfreud What about the super high price of electricity in California?
California residential price: 31.65 cents per kwh
US average price: 16.19 cents
Utah (for example): 10.97 cents

I am not allowed to install solar panels on my place
@adamcurry@THErealDVORAK Information for Adam and John regarding the price of electricity in California.
Average residential price
California: 31.65 cents per kwh
Texas: 14.57 cents per kwh

@Zigmanfreud I remember reading a book by @danrather back in the 70s, 80s. D Rather said, as a White House reporter, he was shocked, SHOCKED! that a WH staffer once suggested a topic that Rather could ask at an upcoming press conference. Today, both sides are reading a script.
