Malware is cool because either
1) If you're writing malware: you're programming with the intent to be as convoluted as possible to evade detection. It is a fun programming challenge.
2) If you're reverse engineering malware: you're taking apart something someone invested time into to be malicious or convoluted as possible
Bonus points are you learn a lot about the internals of stuff (Operating Systems, file formats, network architecture, etc) and, believe it or not, people are just distributing MALWARE for FREE. Malware is all over the internet and you can just TAKE IT and no one cares
🚨🇺🇸 OpenAI engineer arrested after hidden recording device found in executive conference room
Abdulrahman Alfozan, 35, a Saudi national employed by OpenAI since July 2025, was arrested on October 9 and charged with attempting to intercept oral communications.
⠀
OpenAI personnel discovered an encrypted recording device on September 30. Prosecutors say it had been concealed in toilet paper and connected to a USB port behind a television in an executive conference room at the company’s San Francisco offices.
The room was regularly used for confidential discussions involving proprietary research, product plans, technical progress, government engagements and commercial relationships.
⠀
Investigators allege that surveillance footage showed Alfozan near the restricted room on several occasions.
A chatbot account associated with his wife also allegedly submitted prompts about constructing, concealing, encrypting and remotely accessing an audio recorder.
A second similar recording device was later discovered inside a bag containing Alfozan’s wallet and identification.
⠀
OpenAI terminated his employment and said it has found no indication that model weights, source code or customer data were improperly accessed or exfiltrated.
Alfozan faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted.
