Proud to see my alma mater, MIT, stand its ground in a time when too few have.
“In our view, America's leadership in science and innovation depends on independent thinking and open competition for excellence. In that free marketplace of ideas, the people of MIT gladly compete with the very best, without preferences.
Therefore, with respect, we cannot support the proposed approach to addressing the issues facing higher education.”
The National Guard troops & marines deployed to LA have told family members they're unhappy about it, don't support what they're being made to do, and also think it's unnecessary given the reality on the ground.
I may have voted for Trump, but I can’t stay silent about what’s happening with ICE in LA. These aren’t just “illegals” or statistics they’re people. Hardworking immigrants, especially Mexicans, who pay taxes, raise families, build our communities, and are part of the people we love. Ripping them away from their homes is not just policy it’s pain. We can have borders without losing our humanity.
The President of the United States just called for the arrest of a sitting Governor.
This is a day I hoped I would never see in America.
I don’t care if you’re a Democrat or a Republican this is a line we cannot cross as a nation — this is an unmistakable step toward authoritarianism.
Strongly, strong disagree with this. Stripping someone of their citizenship is an extraordinarily harsh punishment with an ugly history in this country and we shouldn't be threatening anything like that, even for people we disagree with.
New piece: Most Trump voters did not in fact "vote to deport moms." They voted because inflation was high under Biden, to deport criminals, or something else. Many do not support Trump's policies. Welcoming those voters back into the tent is key to future Dem electoral success.
When everything is an “emergency,” we no longer have a constitutional republic. We have a completely different form of government than the one our Constitution prescribes. It’s no longer a government of limited and divided powers; it’s one of unlimited and concentrated powers.
Trump’s tariffs are back—for now. A court let him reinstate them while he appeals. More chaos, higher prices, and no stability. We need to stop presidents from abusing emergency powers and pass my bill to restore tariff authority to Congress.
The Constitution gives Congress the power to levy taxes and tariffs. Article 1, Section 8 provides that the Congress “shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises.” The president has no authority in the Constitution to unilaterally impose tariffs without an act of Congress. To restore the power to levy Tariff’s back to the American people, Congress should take immediate steps to reclaim their Constitutional authority On Tariffs.

It’s clearer than ever: Congress shouldn’t be allowed to play the stock market.
It’s time to ban members of Congress from trading stocks and restore trust. I talked with @MeidasTouch about legislation I’m reintroducing to do just that.

Trump’s targeting of my university is an assault on American democracy and civil society. Just look at Hungary: attacks on universities are often an early sign of democratic decline. We can’t stay silent.
I stand with Harvard.
More than Harvard, more than universities, more than science lie in the balance. This is an abuse of power the kind the US so uniquely avoided for so long.
Howell drips with disdain for the firms who capitulated to the White House and says of those who resisted "will be the models lauded when this period of American history is written." https://t.co/oj4sysrkNd
49 Republicans voted against stopping Trump's tariffs. Credit to Collins, Murkowski, and Paul.
Is Paul likely to lose his seat for this? If not, why are the rest such cowards? Is Paul just taking a risk because he has more integrity? If nothing happens to him we have to wonder.
👏
This is exactly how you speak to a dictator who thought he could deceive the world.
A 500% tariff against Russia — one that will also impact those who continue buying Russian gas and oil — unless Putin stops the war.
Thank you, @LindseyGrahamSC.
