Proverbs 27:6 states: “Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.” Or, in plain English, when your enemy starts telling you to fire your lobbyist or lawyer, know that you are winning.

For weeks, the Nigerian Presidency (@officialABAT) and its supporters have called upon @atiku to fire Dr. Von Batten. Today, representatives of the Nigerian Presidency’s multimillion dollar lobbying efforts in DC, in a truly epic rant, questioned why @atiku continues to retain and pay Dr. VonBatten. They claim that Dr. Von Batten is doing such a bad job. We had no clue that the Nigerian Presidency cared so much about former Vice President Atiku.

Criticism and political attacks are not, by themselves, civil torts. Today, however, one specific statement by the Nigerian Presidency’s D.C. representatives raised what we believe are serious defamation concerns and warrants legal review. We are meeting on Monday to discuss it. Please stand by for an announcement no later than Friday of next week.

To the Nigerian Presidency and its representatives in D.C.: We understand that you are very angry because you lost, but choose your words and actions carefully. Given the escalating rhetoric, we are genuinely concerned that this conduct could escalate beyond political attacks and lead to criminal acts directed against Dr. Von Batten. Remain within the boundaries of both civil and criminal law, and remember: the world is watching.

I am surprised to see a statement from @atiku and @ADCNig campaign team including my name as a member of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s policy team for the 2027 presidential campaign.

For the record:

1. I was not consulted and did not give my consent to my name being published as a member of the ADC candidate’s policy team.

2. I am NOT, in fact a member of Atiku’s policy team, even unofficially or in any advisory capacity.

3. I have quit partisan politics in Nigeria since 2022. I have maintained, and continue to maintain, my non-partisan posture in our country’s national affairs. I am not a member or sympathizer of any political party in Nigeria.

4. My primary engagement is as President of @IGETAfrica , a non-partisan public policy think tank and executive education academy, and as CEO of Sogato Strategies, a geopolitical risk and regulatory strategy advisory firm.

5. I remain committed to my country, Nigeria and its progress, but such commitment does not have to entail ANY partisan alignment. I have adopted the path of statesmanship, not partisanship.

The signing of the U.S.-Nigeria mining MOU is the first step of cooperation between the United States and Nigeria that serves America’s interests in having access to critical metals and minerals while improving the Nigerian mining industry.

This MOU was first announced by the Nigerian government last week and was meant to be signed at the UN with President Bola Tinubu @OfficialABAT. It was one of the proposals that Nigerian President Bola Tinubu had allegedly offered in exchange for a meeting with President @realDonaldTrump.

We immediately reached out to the #Trump Administration, which resulted in the article being immediately taken down, the signing at the UN being canceled, and President Tinubu staying in France. President Trump instead signed other agreements at the UN. The United States got the mines; President Tinubu got no meeting.

Peter had the honour and privilege of being the first among the candidates to sit at the negotiation table with Wike while holding serious bargaining power. New figures announced by the CBN showed that the Tinubu administration's economic reform agenda is working and bolstering the Nigerian economy:

1. Nigeria's foreign reserves climbed to $55.25 billion as of September 18, 2026, the highest in 18 years.

2. The reserves are sufficient to finance 11.3 months of imports of goods and services.

3. Current account surplus rose by 67.92 per cent to $7.54 billion in the second quarter of 2026, as against
$4.49 billion in the first quarter.

4. Balance of payments surplus also rose from $2.38 billion to $3.51 billion over the same period.

5. The CBN cut the benchmark interest rate to 23 per cent from 26.5 per cent to reset the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) and recalibrate the policy corridor.

According to CBN, the current account surplus increased from $4.49 billion in the first quarter to $7.54 billion in the second quarter. In comparison, the balance of payments surplus rose from $2.38 billion to $3.51 billion over the same period.

The figures were announced in the communiqué from the 307th meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) on Tuesday.

CBN Governor Yemi Cardoso said the improvement in the country's external position has contributed to greater stability in the foreign exchange market.

He said foreign exchange pressures had receded significantly as the country rebuilt its external buffers.
