Bruh, in a relationship, when you are absent, you expose your partner to things they could even achieve without your participation, and love shifts sadly.

Humans are naturally built to adjust, so gradually, they get so used to your non-participation in their lives to the extent your returned presence start being a hindrance/obstacle to the lives they already built without you.

I mean, go to Ago palace and ask those women if the absence of their traveling husbands made their hearts fonder, and listen to the hysterical laughter they’d let off.

Corrupt leaders are incapable of emotional intelligence, for it requires recognising yourself in another person. And you cannot steal the money meant to provide clean water to all because you so desperately want to be the only one drinking champagne if you still see yourself in the thirsty child.

But it goes beyond lack of emotional intelligence. What we are dealing with is feudalism. They deeply believe in the natural superiority of their lineage over the common citizen. It is genuinely demeaning for them to use the same schools, the same hospitals, the same facilities as the people they govern. Sharing a service with the governed would collapse the hierarchical distance on which their entire sense of self depends.

And the flaunting of stolen wealth is never accidental. It is very intentional. It is how they remind the people of their superiority. The convoys, the mansions, the ostentatious celebrations and lifestyle paid for with public funds is a message to the people: “I took this from you, you watched me take it, and there is nothing you can do about it.”

Gone are the days I used to ask myself how do they sleep at night. They sleep very well and even snore. They have successfully muted whatever conscience they may once have possessed and convinced themselves that they deserve that life and that the people deserve the suffering. There is no internal contradiction to keep them awake.

And Oh, there is one facility they do not mind sharing with the people: the church or the mosque. They need to sit among you in the house of God, draped in stolen wealth, surrounded by their convoy and their bodyguards, so that you may witness with your own eyes that even the divine has chosen them over you. The sermon that preaches humility is delivered to you. The blessing lands on them.

And they leave before you, through a separate exit, back into a world you are not meant to follow them into.

I struggle to understand public officials who proudly celebrate sending their children abroad while the schools they oversee are collapsing.

It's not about whether they can afford it. They have every right to spend their money however they choose.

It's about emotional intelligence and leadership.

Publicly celebrating your escape from a system you are responsible for fixing sends the wrong message to millions of families who have no such option.

The goal of public service shouldn't be to build an exit plan for your own children.

It should be to build a country where every parent's child has access to an education so good that leaving becomes a choice, not a necessity.

That's the standard we should demand.

If you want to keep people on ILR/ Visas for 10-15 years without any safety nets in a country where literally everything, from the government to the private sector, was designed with the idea that people will have that safety net, then you should exempt them from paying taxes that go that Welfare pot so that they can get private insurance & savings to protect themselves and their families.

They cannot contribute their money to a large welfare system that they are not going to benefit from. What kind of extractive system is that?

Immigration is a difficult decision. Getting settled is even tougher. Many don't make it through and are dropped off at the last minute on technicalities, then deported or voluntarily return, and their stories are never told. I don't know which is more painful—doing everything right and still failing, or doing desperate things and being deported.

There is this incident I witnessed on an Iberia flight at Madrid Airport that still haunts me. It was humorous at first, but I later thought about how desperate it was for a man to start stripping himself naked inside the plane because he wanted to leave everything behind, as they wouldn't let him stay with his daughter.

They had to take him off the plane to save others the embarrassment. Another person saw that it worked and did the same thing. They had to come to ask if any others were also thinking of getting naked? A group of four people stood up.

The one that still baffles me is the lady deported from Jamaica, of all places. I knew it had to be for a crime, but she was acting so insane and wanted to open the aircraft door to jump out. She felt that death was better than the shame and uncertainty back home.

People wonder why I came back to Africa when I had all the opportunities to remain abroad. I saw too much indignity being meted out to Africans out there and decided it was best for me to come back and be part of the solution to fix things. I honestly believed tech could be part of the renaissance but never considered that politics and petty tribalism could become the undoing of it all.

I still have hope. I listened to a friend tell her story yesterday of doing everything right in America, getting a PhD and a great job, then losing that job and having only days to leave or be kept in a camp. She decided to leave. This is a brilliant scientist who was working at one of the top institutions. She now has to start all over and pick up the pieces of her life.

The more I hear those stories, the more I look to what China has done and hope and pray that maybe we can pull off such a miracle. According to our parents, “they don't have two heads.” Our corrupt politicians and criminal tribalists may also need to start getting the death penalty before we achieve sanity.

That loan was backed by a pledge of 67,000 barrels of crude oil per day & repayment started in 2024, with maturity in June 2029.

What this means is that we are using crude oil to repay loan for a non-functional refinery till 2029.

I am not sure who is spreading the news about lithium suddenly being discovered in Nigeria and why now, but even in 2024 there was already international media reporting on the illegal mining of lithium in northern Nigeria (see link). This is not news and politicians and bandits have been mining and exporting large amounts of lithium and gold for years. Massacres have happened, whole villages have been emptied for this and at least in a few communities locals are forced to work as indentured servants doing artisanal mining for the bandits who control the mining there.

Bro to bro, sis to sis, learn how to give CPR; Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. You don't know when or where you could deploy this skill. This could be what stands between someone staying alive and dying.

CPR can mean the difference between life and death, and it all starts with the ABC.

A — Airway:
First, make sure the person's airway is open. Gently tilt the head back and lift the chin to prevent the tongue from blocking the airway. Check for any visible obstruction, but don't blindly sweep inside the mouth.

B — Breathing:
Look for chest rise, listen for breathing, and feel for airflow for no more than 10 seconds. If the person isn't breathing normally (or is only gasping), treat it as cardiac arrest.

C — Circulation (Pulse):
Check for a pulse for up to 10 seconds. If there's no pulse, or you're unsure, begin CPR immediately:

Place the heel of your hand in the center of the chest.

Push hard and fast at 100–120 compressions per minute.

Compress the chest about 5–6 cm (2–2.4 inches) in adults, allowing full recoil after each compression.

If trained, give 30 chest compressions followed by 2 rescue breaths. If you're not trained, perform hands-only CPR until help arrives.

Call emergency services or have someone nearby do so, and use an AED as soon as one is available.

You don't have to be a doctor to save a life. Knowing the ABC of CPR could make you someone's first and last chance.
