@jollybeggars The name is apparently taken from an alley that existed for centuries, oldest written record in the 1400s, that led down to where the roundabout is, from up the bank. Javel comes from Gavel = jail/prison and groupe was a drain or channel.
@bo66ie29 Also, there is still some fantastic Tudor & Jacobean merchant houses on the river Quayside, but sadly in the 1850s a huge factory explosion happened on the Gateshead side, & a fireball landed in a Medieval area that if not burnt to ashes would have been bigger than York Shambles.
@bo66ie29 I think a lot of people down south would be surprised to know that Newcastle has city walls of a similar age, unfortunately most were demolished as the city expanded, but there is still some longer stretches and gates.NUFC Gallowgate end is near the gate that led to the gallows.
We rescued Bombi the zebra earlier this year, after lions killed her mother and left her an orphan. She came to us with serious wounds, but thanks to round-the-clock care from her Keepers, she healed wonderfully.
This was filmed soon after her rescue, as Bombi got to know her new human family. Peter’s distinctive outfit – which he still wears – was key to Bombi’s recovery, enabling her to imprint on her Keepers just as she would have on her mother in the wild.
Find out how we rescue orphaned wildlife like Bombi and protect the habitats they call home: https://t.co/RNRO7wx54j
@fjellshepherd Yes, there has been numerous similar stories since 2008. Just buy a big Miami cruiseliner. Add a few more guard rails for choppy seas. Sorted! Get the Norway Sovereign Fund to pay for it. What's a few million when you've got mega billions! 😂Plus it'll pay back economically.
@fjellshepherd NCL does still have a ferry route to Amsterdam and still popular, even though Ncl has direct flights to Amsterdam. It also has flights to Copenhagen, so at least thats an air hub to fly onto Norway. Ferry would also improve NO deliveries as now all items go via south England.
@fjellshepherd yes, and they need to decide which air route and keep it. Bergen is Newcastle's twin city, Stavanger for oil industry, but perhaps it would be better to just stick with Oslo, the capital then people can move on from there, throughout Norway.
@fjellshepherd I find it ridiculous, because all NCL has to do is focus on being a Nordic friendly city and they would have a market of 25 million from FI/NO/DK/SE. it would make a massive difference to the cities economy.
@fjellshepherd and it should still be a top choice for Norwegians to come for a shopping break. Its a great medium sized city for a weekend. The link has weakened. Air routes keep stopping and starting, apparently Logan air are stopping thei NCL to Stavanger & Bergen flights next year.
300 French army officer cadets (EMAC) singing the 🇫🇷 anthem 'la Marseillaise' in the Douaumont Ossuary, eastern France.
This modern French ossuary contains the jumbled bones of 130,000 WW1 soldiers.

@bimpnus I asked Grok to confirm about something I had read about. It says at least 7 teenagers have died in the UK in the last 10 years from accidentally using to much spray deodorant. Also, no legal action against manufacturer as the deaths were ruled 'accidental'
