Ten days ago the Houthis took the Red Sea coast.

Look at what it cost them!

On 16 September a Houthi drone was shot down south of Mecca. Abdul-Malik al-Houthi called the claim "a heinous lie." Nobody in the region believed him, because this is a movement that shelled a camp of displaced Yemenis in Marib and killed two children doing it.

Then Pakistan answered.

Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, yesterday: "Pakistan fully stands with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, both diplomatically and physically. And I would like to underscore here the word physically. We will go to any extent."

He went further. "Our commitment to Saudi security is unconditional." And he named the two holy cities as covered.

This is not solidarity language. Pakistan already has around 8,000 troops in the kingdom, with JF-17s, drones and an HQ-9 air defence system. The capability is in place. What changed yesterday is that Islamabad said out loud what it will be used for.

Now put the rest on the table.

The Mecca Joint Defence Agreement, signed 7 August by Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye. An attack on one treated as an attack on all.

Mohammed bin Salman in Cairo on 15 September, where Egypt stated that the security of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf is an integral part of Egypt's own national security, and agreed to coordinate on Bab al-Mandab, the Red Sea and Hormuz. Cairo is now weighing whether to join the Mecca pact.

The Multinational Maritime Defense Alliance, built in Riyadh in July with 43 nations in the room and the headquarters on Saudi soil.

Operation ASPIDES, extended by the European Council to February 2027.

Two months ago none of that was joined up. The Houthis joined it up.

They gained a coastline and manufactured the coalition that will take it back. That is not a victory. That is a movement that mistook ground for strength.

And now the part Europeans will not like.

Saudi Arabia is fighting an armed theocratic movement that taxes a population, conscripts its children, shells displaced families and sends drones toward Mecca. That is terrorism by any definition Europe applies anywhere else on earth.

Yet in too many European capitals the reflex is still to treat Riyadh as the greater problem and Tehran as a government to be reasoned with. A regime that has spent forty years building armed movements inside other people's countries gets diplomacy. The state defending a shipping lane the European economy depends on gets lectures.

Yemen's own Human Rights Ministry counted around 150 civilians killed and 85,000 displaced in ten days.

Whose war is this, exactly?

Saudi Arabia's war on the Houthis is our war too. The strait they are defending carries European oil. The method the Houthis use is the method ISIS used. The sponsor behind them is the same one behind every armed group from Beirut to Baghdad.

No one rejoices at the bombing of Makkah except someone whose faith and beliefs have gone astray. Makkah holds a sacred and revered place in the hearts of Muslims, and taking pleasure in the suffering of others or the targeting of holy places is not among the values of true faith.

The claim that Saudi Arabia asked Israel for help against the Houthis originated with the Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom, citing unnamed diplomatic officials. No Saudi media outlet or Saudi official confirm this claim.

So now Israeli media is trustworthy when the story is against Saudi Arabia? Make it make sense.

The holy city of Makkah is honored because it is home to the Kaaba, the House of Allah. It is the greatest and holiest place on Earth. If any kind of attack is carried out against this sacred place, it is our moral and religious duty to speak out against it and condemn it.
