What happened to the more recent praise-worthy and commendable achievement by pharmacist, Chika Onochie who has just won CAD$100,000 research award for his groundbreaking male fertility study in the same Canada?

You know as much as I do that a lot of people have concluded you’re unashamedly tribalistic, especially in the way you discharge your duties. I’ve never gotten involved in that conversation about you. But the moment I saw this post, my alarm bells went off.

Could it be that, rather than post about this milestone by an Igbo boy which literally just happened and has been widely reported in the media, you went all the way back to 2024 to pull a Yoruba-centric milestone by Dr. Bolu? That’s flat out tribalism!

You’re neither a content creator nor a social media activist. You are a public servant taxed with ensuring the wellbeing and unity of Nigerians in diaspora, not Yorubas in diaspora - through the Nigerians in Diaspora Organization.

To see something like this from you has further buttressed my long held notion that this administration’s nepotism is extremely infectious and unlike anything we’ve seen since the life of this nation. And this is what happens when it trickles down from the top.

Honestly, this is very regrettable and I think you should apologize and retrace your steps.

🚨BREAKING: Akwa Ibom Police have reportedly arrested Dr. Benjamin Smith, Obidient Movement Coordinator, at the State Command in Ikot Akpan Abia.

He went with supporters to secure the release of OK Movement coordinator @ElijahNoah8 and others picked up earlier in Uyo, after police cancelled their Independence Day march for Obi/Kwankwaso and tear-gassed supporters.

The man who went to bail the detained is now detained.

Why is it always the opposition the Nigerian Police harass? When was an APC march last tear-gassed? Is this still a democracy?

Chaøs in Gariki, Enugu State today as a man identified as Friday reportedly løses his life after allegedly being be@ten by a task force for dropping a passenger outside the newly constructed terminal.

According to a man who identified himself as a Keke rider, the incident happened yesterday when the late Friday picked up a passenger along the expressway.

He claimed that while they were approaching the terminal, the passenger paid the fare and jumped out of the Keke. The task force reportedly saw him dropping the passenger at that spot and allegedly descended on him for doing so.

The eyewitness further claimed that the task force beat Friday to a stupor, and he later passed away last night.

Independence Is Meaningless Without Real Freedom

As we continue to reflect on Nigeria’s Independence, we must remember that independence means very little if citizens cannot freely express themselves, within the bounds of the law, without fear.

Reports that some Nigerians in Akwa Ibom were arrested simply for identifying with the Obidient Movement should worry every Nigerian who believes in democracy and freedom, especially when such identification is a constitutional right.

One of the greatest tragedies of our society is that people who once described themselves as freedom fighters can become defenders of oppression when they eventually occupy positions of authority. Those who once complained about injustice can become comfortable with injustice when it is being perpetrated against people they disagree with. That must not be the Nigeria we accept.

Our independence must ultimately mean freedom from fear, injustice, intolerance and abuse of power.

Nigeria must belong to all of us. -PO
