On September 11, 2001, dogs served in different ways across the World Trade Center disaster — searching rubble, detecting danger, and guiding people through smoke-filled stairwells to safety.
Apollo, an NYPD German Shepherd, searched the ruins of Ground Zero alongside rescue crews.
Bretagne, a young Golden Retriever with Texas Task Force 1, worked through dust, twisted steel, and devastation. Years later, she became widely remembered as the last known surviving 9/11 search-and-rescue dog.
Jake, a black Labrador who had once been abandoned and badly injured, grew up to become a certified search-and-rescue dog. After 9/11, he spent days working through the wreckage at Ground Zero.
Sirius, a Port Authority Police yellow Labrador trained to detect explosives, was inside the World Trade Center that morning. His handler, Officer David Lim, secured him before rushing to help others evacuate.
Lim survived.
Sirius did not.
He became known as the only police dog killed in the 9/11 attacks.
And then there were Roselle and Salty.
They weren’t searching the rubble.
They were guide dogs.
Roselle helped her blind handler, Michael Hingson, escape from the 78th floor of the North Tower.
Salty helped his blind handler, Omar Rivera, descend from the 71st floor.
Through darkness, noise, fear, crowded stairwells, and chaos, they kept moving.
Six dogs.
Six very different stories.
Search dogs. Police dogs. Guide dogs.
None of them knew the meaning of terrorism.
None understood why that morning had changed America forever.
They simply did what they had been trained to do — and stayed beside the people who depended on them.
More than two decades later, their names still deserve to be remembered.
Apollo. Bretagne. Jake. Sirius. Roselle. Salty.
They searched.
They guided.
They served.

Horas antes del accidente que terminó con su vida, Eduardo “El Polaco” Groh Riemersma hacía lo mismo que hizo durante tantos años: cuidar, mimar y hablar con orgullo de sus perros.

🔺Desde El Montecito de los Canichones compartió un video rumbo a la peluquería con algunos de sus “flequilludos”. Entre risas escribió una frase que hoy, después de conocer la noticia de su muerte, emociona todavía más:

“Háblame de amor!!” 🐾❤️

💔Y de amor sabía mucho. Del amor que no pregunta por la raza, la edad, una enfermedad o una discapacidad. Del amor que rescata cuando otros abandonan. Del amor que devuelve dignidad a quienes alguna vez quedaron solos.

“El Polaco” dedicó buena parte de su vida a sus canichones y llegó a cuidar y proteger a cientos de perros. Su muerte, a los 49 años, en un accidente de tránsito en Santiago del Estero, provocó una enorme conmoción entre proteccionistas y quienes seguían diariamente su tarea.

Resulta imposible mirar estas imágenes sin pensar que él todavía no sabía que estaba dejando uno de sus últimos recuerdos. Para él era un día más junto a sus perros. Para quienes hoy lo despiden, ese momento se transformó en un pedacito de su enorme legado.

💔 Se fue “El Polaco”, pero quedaron cientos de colitas que alguna vez volvieron a moverse gracias a él.

Y quizás esa sea la mejor manera de recordarlo: hablando de amor💕

🚨 TAIL STRIKE AND DAMAGED TIRES: WHAT MAY HAVE CAUSED THIS?

Vietnam Airlines 787-9 with tail number VN-A867 had a delayed take-off at Munich Airport and almost utilized the entire length of the runway before flying off the ground.

Reports suggest that the aircraft had a tail strike for which it had to go back with damaged main landing gear tires.

There is speculation that the seizing of Electric Brake Actuator (EBA) or some internal problem which affected the functioning of the main landing gear braking system, may have led to the unusual acceleration of the plane.

🚨 JUST IN: A Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787-9 had a pretty unusual takeoff from Munich today.

Flight VN34 was departing for Hanoi when the aircraft rotated very late, lifting off near the end of Runway 26L. Ground footage shows the main landing gear coming off the runway with a cloud of dust behind it.

There are reports that the aircraft may have struck equipment beyond the runway, potentially damaging runway lights and possibly the aircraft itself, though the reports aren't verified yet.

After takeoff, the crew stopped the climb at around 9,000 ft and entered a holding pattern near Munich, likely to assess the situation and burn fuel.

Definitely not a normal takeoff, and the footage shows just how close to the end of the runway the 787 lifted off.

In 1996, an Italian born diver named Cristina Zenato was on a routine dive off the coast of the Bahamas when a shark approached her. It did not attack. Instead, it circled her, revealing a fishing hook lodged deep in its mouth.

Most people would have frozen. Cristina reached out and removed the hook.
The shark, later named Foggy Eye, returned to her afterward and kept showing up at her dives. Word seemed to travel through the reef. One by one, other injured sharks began approaching her, each carrying its own hook, its own quiet request for help.

Over the next 20 years, Cristina removed nearly 300 hooks from sharks. She did this despite heavy opposition from family and friends who feared for her safety. She was never harmed.

Today she is known as the Shark Whisperer, a title earned through patience, trust, and an unshakable belief that these creatures deserve to be understood rather than feared.

Fear yields to purpose when you master your instincts.
