An exciting day yesterday for #QUICCHE with the Gothenburg glider group led by Seb Swart deploying a sailbuoy, wave glider and sea explorer! All were whisked quickly eastward in a dipole eddy jet, so plenty of excitement for the pilots back in Sweden too.
This afternoon the RRS Sir David Attenborough launched the BAS Sailbuoy, an unmanned long endurance surface vehicle for oceans, equipped with an array of sensors, including echo sounder, and remotely controlled from Cambridge via satellite @BAS_News
Recovered beautifully via lasso & crane out of S Ocean by RV Polarstern and @povl_a. Pity Sailbuoy has sail damage from her 2.5 month mission - probably growler collision. Perhaps we can repair and redeploy. Still under discussion… but yummy ADCP data now downloaded 🤓
