The Ayatollahs believe, and I agree with them, that the existence of Israel is the reasons behind the survival of the various Arab regimes, because Israel, as a nation-state in the region, gave legitimacy to the Islamic nation-state.

If Israel falls, then these regimes will fall, Muslims in the region will unite against the Western-backed rulers leading them, and the path toward reestablishing the Islamic caliphate will open.

Iran and its Shia proxies fight on two fronts: destroying Israel, which Sunni Muslims also support, and weakening the Sunni nation-state.

Just before October 7, Iran had full control over Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Yemen.

In their imagination, if Iran wins the war against Israel, it will be able to lead the region in taking down the Western puppets and take over the Hijaz in a post-Israel era starting from the countries under it's control.

The Houthis’ war against Saudi Arabia, whatever the other secondary motives, was steered by Iran within this broader framework: seize Yemen, weaken Saudi Arabia, and keep Israel in the crosshairs so that, when the regional order breaks, Iran is positioned to move in.
