Remember why such films and hashtags became necessary in the first place? Why Imran Khan built a case for the world at UNGA to observe a day for “Islamophobia”? What was the awareness he was trying to create in the world? Because the actions of some are used to stereotype an entire community and religion. The same caution applies here. Yes, TTP and its victims both are overwhelmingly Pashtoons, and Balochistan’s insurgency has tribal and historical dimensions. But reducing it to “tribes fighting each other” is an oversimplification of the problem. Pakistan needs peace and unity not divisions and chaos that anti-state actors exploit and make life dangerous for armed forces and all Pakistanis. The issue is not that “they are fighting among themselves”. It is a political issue. And such collective attribution is very dangerous at this point when our armed forces and our people are fighting this on a daily basis. This narrative being pushed by a few is irresponsible and inaccurate reading of the situation and with friends like this we dont need enemies. Whether it is Pushtoons being stereotyped because of terrorism, Muslims in the world being painted in a particular light because of extremism, or Muslim immigrants being collectively associated with the UK grooming-gang scandal, the principle remains the same:

“The crimes of individuals should not become the identity of an entire community.”
