Also, writing an essay to defend African literature against racist platforms is just writing an essay to show that you are brilliant. There is nothing revolutionary about it. What is revolutionary is organizing among ourselves. Those of us who have been able to create platforms or accumulate power for ourselves have to protect those coming after us.

What do you think your essay is going to accomplish? We all saw the relentless witch-hunt of Jason Arday. We all read the many essays written in support of him. What did they accomplish? You are demanding essays as a means of fighting people who are going to be commissioned by big publications with the means to influence the algorithm.

I need us to really wake up to what is happening around us. Your brilliance cannot save you or anyone else. What can save us is relentless organizing, and this does not mean we have to condone cheaters. Nope. What it means is that we have to protect ourselves when we know that those coming for us are not seeking genuine answers. Rather, they are seeking our complete extinction, and I say this as someone who is working on an essay about all of this.

BREAKING: Updated entry guidelines for the literary prize next year:

Video footage of you staring into the distance, forming your thoughts (preferable if you say it out loud when the idea comes).
A work log detailing, keystrokes, time between paragraphs, version history, jotters where you wrote ideas. If electronic, story must be submitted with the device used for forensic analysis.
A sworn affidavit from at least one other person you discussed the story with prior to writing. Persons you are having intercourse with or who you share blood with do not qualify. An ex who hates you is an exception.
If characters are inspired by real persons, photos of said people together with any social media accounts they may have.
A log showing your blood pressure and heart rate during writing and editing.
A sworn statement signed in your own blood that every word is in fact not AI.
At least one legitimate typo per page.
A brief explanation of each metaphor and how you came about it.
A sworn statement that you posses sufficient fear of god, of AI, and of journalists who may accuse you of AI use.

A witchhunt against the African writer.

It's open season on African writers. It stinks and it destroys. The goal here is not just to discredit, but to suppress, and inevitably, silence.

I hope it never gets to the point where some get scared to write due to fear of these claims.

Many writers on the African continent work a full time job, they hardly earn from their writing, and the slightest chance of reward or recognition, you come down with the hammer of “you wrote this with AI”. There’s no wickedness like this.
