With the expiration of New START, the final major pillar of bilateral arms control has collapsed. We are living without enforceable nuclear constraints for the first time since the 1970s.
The May issue of @BulletinAtomic is out: "The Very Uncertain Future of Arms Control." 🧵
Dear Nuke Twitter. Let’s play an abbreviation game to confuse the sane (and mentally stable) outside world.
Drop a nuke related abbreviation (without explanation) just for the heck of it. I’ll start:

US-Israeli attacks on Iran under the pretext of ending a nuclear weapons programme are damaging confidence in the NPT.

Superb article by @olamideDIY on the incohate 🇺🇸 demands on #Iran's nuclear program. Iran already committed to have no nuclear weapons; no need to pay twice for that. Better question: how to restore confidence in those NPT pledges? https://t.co/j7LlzTvyxr
State Minister for Foreign Affairs KUNIMITSU participated in a side event on the International Group of Eminent Persons for a World without Nuclear Weapons (IGEP), hosted by the Government of Japan, and delivered emphasizing that precisely because the international community is faced with deepening divisions and confrontation that we need dialogue and joint efforts involving both nuclear-weapon and non-nuclear-weapon States, as exemplified by the IGEP.

Washington is right to demand strong non-proliferation guarantees from Iran, writes Olamide Samuel @olamideDIY.
But, it must treat the institutions that make these guarantees credible as something more than disposable tools. https://t.co/LIJWeUbhlg
"It is quite perplexing that a significant part of what Washington demands of Tehran has already been written into a treaty Iran signed a long time ago—the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), to which Iran is a non-nuclear-weapon state party since 1970. Although Tehran is to blame for Washington’s undermined confidence in the NPT, bombing Iran and issuing blockade threats won’t lead to a better non-proliferation arrangement. As state parties to the NPT will convene this month in New York for the treaty’s review conference, it’s about time to remind the Trump administration of the non-proliferation obligations Tehran already agreed to."

In a new article for @BulletinAtomic, ONN's @olamideDIY argues that Washington is right to seek strong non-proliferation guarantees from Iran but cannot continue treating the institutions that make those guarantees credible as disposable.
Inspiring words marked our 2 March event, launching a week of activities for #IDDNPA.
From raising awareness and promoting dialogue, to integrating disarmament into classrooms, one message resonated throughout: disarmament is key to building a safer, more sustainable future.
Today, H.E. Amb. Nurzhan Shaildabekova (Permanent Representative of Kyrgyzstan), Ms. Rebecca Jovin (UNODA) and Mr. Olamide Samuels (ONN) made remarks at the launch of our interactive booth at the VIC Rotunda, which will be open throughout the week, in the margins of the #IDDNPA
