MBC team has found that anti-progestin therapy could help prevent breast cancer before menopause.
Published today in Nature, the study suggests this could be a new way to stop breast cancer before it starts.

A drug already used on the NHS could one day help prevent breast cancer in women before the menopause who have a family history of breast cancer.
In a small study, researchers found it reduced early changes in breast tissue linked to cancer developing.

Congratulations to our star MRC student @ollie cottrell who defended his PhD thesis on harnessing gene expression oscillations to prevent dormant cancer cells from reactivating. Exciting work that lays the foundation for new ways to prevent relapse.
@RestIsPolitics@RoryStewartUK@campbellclaret Would you be intersted in discussing Bulgarian elections next week (7th since 2021)? Catastrophic breakdown in functional democracy. Broken proportional representation. Lots of Russian influence. What happens when a country wants to be democratic and just can't seem to manage it?

@ChrisMartzWX Using the top 28 + Milton
6 in the last 7 years = 0.86 strong hurricanes/yr (1 every 1.2 yrs)
23 between 1851-2016 = 0.13 strong hurricanes/year (1 every 7.7 yrs)
It’s a short observation period for now but in line with other trends outside FL, across the globe - worrying. No?

It’s still a relatively short observation period and I’ve not done the stats - but that is a concerning trend.
@JohnOBrennan2 Though, now we’re here, not sure we should be over-politicising or otherwise criticising a simple show of connection to local fans.
Dislike both Novak’s views and Bulgarian division/nationalism.
But he’s just singing a nice song at a charity match. No?
@JohnOBrennan2 Was not a criticism or commentary of your post or its sentiments. Was supplementing correct context for others who may encounter the post via your tweet.
Our innovative study brings out the distinction between single cell and population-level #dynamic regulation. Single cell #oscillators can behave abnormally, despite this the population is normal due to cell #coupling mediated compensation. @Dev_journal

Had a great time in Germany @embl for #EESBioOsc - hearing about all things oscillations across a dizzying range of scales and contexts.
Enjoyed giving a talk on my PhD work with @PapalopuluLab@RobClarkeLab on Hes1 oscillations in breast cancer.
Happy to have contributed to investigation of circadian clocks in breast cancer with Shiyang Li in Qing Jun Meng's lab funded by a collaborative @BreastCancerNow grant with Sacha Howell in @MCRBreastCentre@MCRCnews and @UoM_DCS

How do cells decode #TF oscillations and how does this impact development? We find #NGN3 protein oscillates in #pancreatic endocrine cells, #oscillations are likely decoded via fold-change and impact on the timing of differentiation, but not fate choice: https://t.co/OYZSa3ryyU
How many genes oscillate? In our latest paper we ask this question in #Glioblastoma. Using #bioinformatics and the #osconet algorithm we identified candidate genes and then experimentally validated that #SOX2 oscillates. Now in Press
