Following my post on electric waste-collection tricycles, here is another challenge for our builders and innovators: affordable, locally manufactured biodigesters for Lagos food markets.
Can we turn separated fruit and vegetable waste into cooking gas close to where it is generated, rather than transport it all to a dumpsite?
The Ikosi Fruit Market biodigester, developed through Lagos State’s partnership with @c40cities, gives us a starting point. The next challenge is to make this approach practical and affordable for more markets, with equipment we can manufacture and maintain locally.
I would like to hear from Nigerian engineers, fabricators, researchers and biogas entrepreneurs, alongside international partners willing to support local manufacturing and skills transfer.
Share what you have built, how much waste it processes daily, its gas output, and what it costs to install and run. We also need to understand the maintenance requirements, safety arrangements and how you manage the material left after digestion.
The design must account for the daily realities of a busy Lagos market, from separating the waste to training the people who will operate the equipment.
Who is building something we should look at? Share your work in the replies and tag @Lawma_gov.

A sense of worth comes from embracing everything about yourself and being confident in yourself.
We often seek to cover up our imperfections to feel worthy. Whether it is a perfect body or life, we feel that until we achieve that, we are not as deserving as anyone else.
