Aristotle wrote the operating system Western civilization ran on for two thousand years – and quietly abandoned in the twentieth century, around the same time all the catastrophes we have been describing began.

1. His central question is not “what are your rights?” It is “what are you for?”
Eudaimonia — flourishing, not happiness — is the answer: the full realization of what a human being can become. The moment a civilization stops asking this question and starts asking only about rights, equality, and safety, it has already chosen administration over life.

2. Virtue is not a rule you follow. It is a habit you form – through practice, through the right environment, through a community that models and rewards excellence. This is why negative selection is so catastrophic in Aristotelian terms: it doesn’t just promote the wrong people. It corrupts the very mechanism by which virtue is transmitted across generations.

3. Man is a political animal – not in the sense that man should be governed, but that man is constituted by his community. You cannot flourish alone. But the corollary is equally precise: the polis exists for man’s flourishing, not the other way around. The moment the state becomes the end and the citizen becomes the means, you have not just bad government – you have the inversion of the natural order.

4. Aristotle catalogued the corruptions of every form of government: monarchy becomes tyranny, aristocracy becomes oligarchy, polity becomes mob rule. The pattern in every case is identical – the rulers stop ruling for the common good and start ruling for themselves. This is not a modern insight. It is the oldest political observation in the Western tradition. Every system contains the seed of its own corruption. The question is always: who is it for?

5. Phronesis — practical wisdom — the ability to judge particular situations correctly, without a rulebook. The bureaucratic state destroys phronesis systematically, replacing judgment with procedure, wisdom with compliance, the experienced man with the certified one. This is Aristotle’s explanation for why the credentialed class produces so many wrong decisions with such complete confidence.

6. He identified the middle class as the foundation of the stable republic – the ballast that prevents the ship from capsizing toward oligarchy above or mob rule below. Not as a sociological observation. As a structural necessity. Destroy the middle class and you have not just inequality – you have the preconditions for every tyranny he ever described.

7. The West replaced Aristotle with procedure, utility, and rights. It gained a framework for managing conflict but lost the vocabulary for saying what a good life is. The system can optimize for GDP, equality of outcome, measured safety – but it cannot tell you what you are for. Aristotle could. Every civilization that forgot that question discovered, eventually, that someone else was happy to answer it for them.

America's cultural ideal has been the self-made entrepreneur while Europe's was rooted in aristocracy, with status inherited rather than earned. Europe's inheritance laws show this divide.

Many European countries have "forced heirship" laws that require people to leave 50-75% of their estates to their children. Want to leave the majority of your wealth to charity? not allowed. Your kids are estranged from you, struggling with addiction, or irresponsible? still required to give them the money. Want your kids to avoid a life of entitlement? tough.

Incredibly, these laws look back at transfers made during your lifetime. If you have 3 children in France, you're required to bequeath them a minimum of 75% of your estate. Because French law calculates this based on your assets at death plus all lifetime gifts, giving away more than 25% of your wealth while alive means your heirs can legally sue to force charities or foundations to return the funds. This has limited the development of the nonprofit sector on the continent.

The cultural gap between an entrepreneurial society and one shaped by dynastic wealth is enormous. If you make it yourself, you tend to want your kids to do the same. If you inherit it, the primary goal is protecting the estate for the next gen.

Countries like Spain, France, and Italy legally entrench family dynasties, while America has historically sought to limit them through estate taxes. The result is not only a weaker culture of philanthropy and civil society in Europe, but also less economic dynamism.

In 1910, an educator named Abraham Flexner, who held a bachelor's degree in classics and had never studied medicine, was sent by the Carnegie Foundation to inspect every medical school in the United States and Canada.

He visited 155 of them. His report recommended closing most.

What happened next is the foundation of every health system you know today.

John D. Rockefeller, the founder of Standard Oil and at the time the richest man on Earth, saw an opening. Standard Oil's refining produced vast quantities of coal-tar and petrochemical byproducts. Those byproducts were, conveniently, the raw material from which most early synthetic pharmaceuticals could be made.

Through his General Education Board and the Rockefeller Foundation, Rockefeller directed approximately $50 million, around $10 billion in today's money, into American medical schools. The money came with a condition. The schools had to teach allopathic, drug-based medicine. Anything else was defunded.

Within twenty-five years, more than half of America's 155 medical schools had closed. By 1935, only 66 remained. The schools teaching homeopathy, naturopathy, herbalism, eclectic medicine, and what we would now call nutrition and lifestyle medicine were starved out of existence. Five of America's seven Black medical colleges were closed. Most of the women's medical colleges were closed. The surviving schools all taught one paradigm. They still do.

The petroleum byproduct became the medicine. The medicine became the curriculum. The curriculum became the doctor. The doctor became the prescription pad.

The model that emerged has one structural feature no regulator can legislate away. The pharmaceutical industry earns its revenue when you take a pill. It does not earn revenue when you stop needing the pill. A cure is a one-time transaction. A chronic condition is a subscription.

This is not a conspiracy theory. It is on the income statement. From 2017 to 2024, the average net profit margin of pharmaceutical manufacturers was 23.2%, roughly ten times higher than every other sector of the drug supply chain. The system is performing exactly as designed.

A century after Flexner, the population of the wealthiest country on Earth is fatter, sicker, and on more medication than at any point in human history.

The grass-fed beef, the egg from a hen you can name, the butter, the morning walk, the eight hours of sleep, are all unpatentable.

That is why no oil baron funded a hundred medical schools to teach them.

🚨BREAKING: There is NO water in The Rio Grande?!

I’m standing here in New Mexico and the river is completely DRY.

Nearby AI data centers are consuming massive amounts of water to keep their systems cool.

Meta’s Los Lunas facility alone has reportedly been tied to roughly 75 million gallons of water usage per year connected to Rio Grande resources and it’s only ONE of many projects expanding across the state.

People can argue over the exact numbers, but one thing is undeniable… these facilities require enormous amounts of water and there are more data centers across the country being built as we speak.

This is starting to look like an environmental disaster in plain sight.

We need to put pressure on local representatives and the President to examine this environmental crisis before it’s too late.
