@Begaria @alex_kid7 It doesn't matter if the Sephiroth in Re-trilogy hasn't (himself) experienced outcome he's trying to avoid. The fact that it's referenced (especially in a major way) is enough to make it a sequel. We, the player, have already experienced it... that's all that matters.

@Begaria @alex_kid7 Sephiroth "Dr. Stranging" the ways he'd be defeated AFTER we've already been shown one way he was defeated via the original game makes it a sequel. He's "avoiding" an outcome we've already reached in the original game. Him "Dr. Strange-ing" is a referential to the OG.

@Begaria @alex_kid7 The story isn't starting anew, it's building upon the original's story. Cloud and gang fighting arbitors of fate to avoid the OG game's outcome means that it's a continuation of the OG. That's what makes it a sequel.

They can be meta, self-referential, alternate timeline, "what if we changed it" stories; It can be time-loop, "fighting fate" narratives.

Remake is clearly a continuity of the OG game. Thus...
