Today, two types of these cable cars remain in service and both still operate in the same way as they did at the birth of the cable cars. In addition to New Orleans’ St. Charles streetcar line the San Francisco cable cars are now considered a National Historic Streetcar Landmark.
but thanks to widespread public support to keep them operational, the cable cars also survived through this political turmoil to become a now iconic symbol of the city of San Francisco.

The striking gold dome is made of real gold leaf in tribute to the Colorado Gold Rush. The rest of the building was constructed from Colorado white granite in the 1890s. The historic building sits slightly higher than the rest of downtown Denver.

The building is part of Denver's Civic Centre district. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974 as part of the Civic Centre Historic District.
