Whether those people are gay or not, they are Ugandans. Their rights are not a favour from you. They must be respected and protected.
That concert was not a school. It was not a nursery. It was not a lesson for your children. Adults paid their own money to hear a singer they love. You have no authority over how they dress or how they enjoy themselves.
Stop wasting public anger on private lives and put it on what actually builds Uganda.
You cannot claim to fight for a new Uganda and then sound eager to police gay citizens in a worse spirit than the government you condemn. One must wonder what you would do if you ever got power over this country. Will some Ugandans stop being citizens because they live in a way your closed mind cannot understand?
Have some ice water and cool down. Then mind your own business because your shouting will not change a thing, Mr. Akiso.
Dear Admin, you gotta let some things slide.
2. Mistakes were avoidable
- The person arrested is Dr. Mukose Moses - you have written Musoke Arnold Anthony. ( flyer puts it right though).
- It is PhD, not PHD - and not Doctor of books.
Certainly, a Ugandan being arrested from a Public Hospital and charged with a non existing offense of “wondering around” is not anything a respectable institution like Mulago should drag itself into.
I’m a firm believer that to be the best, you must learn from and then try to beat the best.
I’m also a firm believer that for Uganda’s justice system to be reformed, we need to take as many ordinary citizens as possible into the courtrooms and show them the true underbelly of our (in)justice system
This can be done both physically and through in-depth, easy to understand reporting.
In East Africa, there’s no country where legal reporting is as advanced as it is in Kenya. The results are a clearly progressive, constantly improving justice system.
That magnifying glass that legal reporting brings, drives change.
In Uganda, legal reporting is almost dead. Sadly. It’s in urgent need of resuscitation.
Anyway, on my business/mountaineering trip, I took off some time to pass by the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi; a major judicial complex that’s home to the High Court and several subordinate courts.
It’s an imposing structure; a fortress to justice.
I spent my day attending different criminal sessions, ranging from murder to traffic violations. I spoke to court clerks, law students, lawyers, courtroom reporters etc
Everyone from the various registry staff to the guys who clean toilets was nice. I almost felt lost.
The buzz in that place left me feeling a bit envious of our neighbors to the east.
I also got the sense that while not all Kenyan court users I interacted with were super happy with their system, one could tell that they believed in the powers of the courts to retrain the state and deliver a semblance of justice.
In Uganda, only a brave or semi-delusional man/woman can say that.
The experience left me both sad and mildly hopeful. Sad that we’ve slipped down this much.
Hopeful because I believe we’ve hit rock bottom and can’t go further down (surely!)
The only way is to bounce back up.
That will start by building an army of courtroom reporters, activists and more engaged citizens to demand for better.
Lawyers, journalists, ordinary citizens might find not only a great career in courtroom reporting but it might also be a great way to discharge one’s civic duty.
We NEED #DPPReforms/criminal justice reforms
#EmptyTheJails!
#OutrageMerchants profit from attention; validation and revenge by stirring sustained outrage and slander against their real and or imagined exposers, while playing victim!
A few years ago I met a man who said he does not like what I do with the news. He said I am “too much”. He said this with a smile on his face. He then asked for a selfie because he wanted his wife to know he had had met with her favorite Tv person! He told me his wife is dying to meet me. In most homes it seems women have taste and men don’t 😂😂😂😂
"If you willingly break the law to protect those in power against the law, what makes you think you will have the protection of the law when those in power leave? And they will one day leave, just as surely as the sun rises and sets." – Former presidential candidate Major General (Rtd) Gregory Mugisha Muntu, founder of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT). THE BEST PRESIDENT UGANDA NEVER HAD.
Entitlement, they must compete with the lowly scavengers who stormed the party and whose only claim to #IndividualMerit is; "nafunye empombo biri, olulala naluwadde Spice Spire eyabadde guest of honour..."
Four decades of institutionalised GREED, SELFISHNESS, DISHONESTY, and lack of a sense of SHAME in the moral social fabric built on the foundation of #IndividualMerrit
Take all the time you need to Think about it!
One of the telling things about our society at our functions is how we behave around food:
1. People loading more food on their plates than they can finish, and without feeling ashamed of the heaps on their plates
2. The fact that people have to be served, because they don’t know how to share limited resources
3. When given a chance for self service, people serving themselves without any regard to those behind them that might not get. Five pieces of chicken are left in the dish, and someone serves himself three of them (with 20 people behind him)
4. People eating more than they need, just because there is free food
5. People acting impatient as if they would die if they took 10 more minutes before their turn to serve (okulookalooka/ okululunkana)
6. Serving the second time (double) before others get anything, and pretending not to have eaten at all
7. Packing food to take home when some people present haven’t got
8. Catering service providers hiding food.
While these habits might seem isolated and only related to food, they ALL vividly manifest themselves when we are in charge of any resources that have to be shared. Think about it. Our biggest problems as a country are around GREED, SELFISHNESS, DISHONESTY, and lack of a sense of SHAME
#UgandanOnXtasy aka @UOXUganda's take on the plight of a "Ugandan civilian foreigner" in transit...
What do you serve a mother who is a virgin?
A Virgin Mary! A fuckin miracle...
Something has been bothering me about the Protection of sovereignty bill. It refers to an Ugandan living in a foreign country as a FOREIGNER.
My question is; what happens if the Ugandan who is now regarded as a foreigner wishes to come back to Uganda? Do they now process for citizenship? Are they treated as foreigners even on their motherland?
What if they staying in Uganda for some time and then stay in the other country for some time? Do they keep the “foreigner” status or it changes once they are in or out of the country?🤔
The @unmfederationug logo looks like the Crested Crane is gagging on a stiff Dick! @UOXUganda aka Ugandans On Xtacy, have you not a list of worthy beneficiaries of a presidential handshake or advisor?
