An opportunity exists to solve the major problem facing the Performing Arts Sector.
Together we can safeguard the Performing Arts for future generations.
We need action now to protect our cultural sector and the people who work in it.
ACTION: replenish the @ace_national CRF Emergency Response Fund, and allow freelancers to access it with evidence of cancelled contracts.
@NadineDorries@DCMS
Shows closed, performances cancelled and huge uncertainty for what will happen in Jan… we are facing a de facto cultural lockdown. OVC are working with campaign groups, Unions and industry reps to ensure livelihoods of arts freelancers are being considered by Government.
Another difficult day for friends & colleagues in theatre. I’m sad that so many are now facing further uncertainties & additional anxieties after a tremendously difficult 15 months. I feel for those now rethinking plans, or simply wondering how they survive this. Brutal.
1/2 PLEASE @DCMSArts @DCMS. We understand the delay but need clarity on what performing arts guidelines might be issued in stage 4. Tomorrow our board will have to make a call affecting over £120k of freelance musicians’ earnings. We’d like to protect as many of those jobs as
Our thoughts are with colleagues across the Performing Arts, who are trying so hard in extraordinarily difficult circumstances. As @PaulTaylorMills says, we need the faith and supported of our audiences now more than ever
Thinking of all our friends and colleagues who’ve tried so hard to get shows and concerts on, and are devastated by these latest restrictions. Here’s to a better 2021...

Q: Can arts venues open for rehearsals and to stream performances?
A: Yes. Arts venues are places of work, so people can come into them for work, if it cannot be undertaken from home. This includes rehearsals and performance. Audiences are not permitted.
We are extremely grateful to have received support from the Culture Recovery Fund @ace_national and @DCMS. This is a vital step in our recovery and will enable us to keep making brilliant music for, and with, our community #HereForCulture Find out more: https://t.co/ddjlToHvC8
@TheStage@agoodladd https://t.co/IRTivfYESf this is how Seat-matching can work to sustain performance and kickstart the cultural recovery while social distancing remains in force.
If social distancing for audiences is here to stay, @OliverDowden and @RishiSunak will need to pay for the the empty seats. #SeatOutToHelpOut There is no simpler way to make venues viable again and help rebuild the creative economy. @onevoicecmpgn https://t.co/rah2Ra2pWU
Wishing our friends @BristolOldVic huge success with their #SeatOutToHelpOut. Seat-matching = performances/how to cope with social distancing/audience safety/much needed work for our freelance workforce... Please make it part of the plan for the cultural recovery @DCMSArts
We’re only allowed to sell 1/3 of our seats right now, so today we’re launching #SeatOuttoHelpOut.
Help us by donating to keep an empty seat warm – for a night, a week, a month, or even until we fully reopen!

It’s good news for venues, organisation and institutions – but it’s not putting the workforce back to work or money in their pockets.
