I’ve just watched President William Ruto telling the youth that he has a big plan for them in this era.

But we should remember something.

During the Finance Bill protests of 2024, many of us youths were called “treasonous criminals.”

Young people who went to the streets to protest the rising cost of living were treated as enemies of the state.

Some of us were arrested.
Some were injured.
Some are dead.
Some families are still asking where their children went.

Today, the language has changed.
Suddenly, the youth are partners.
Suddenly, the government is listening.
Suddenly, it's Mbexe mbexe
Because elections are approaching.

History teaches us something important:
Leaders rarely change their view of the people overnight.

They speak harshly when they feel they have nothing to lose.
And softly, when they need votes.

We should always remember how they spoke to us when we demanded accountability.
