Well sure, I COULD just read a book on my phone, but then I'd just look like anybody else compulsively checking their phone rather than the very specific sort of weirdo who brings a book to a party.
Everyone with a "has bought groceries" level of economic understanding knows the direct damage tariffs cause in the form of higher prices. But also! I went to buy a motorcycle helmet and *so* much was out of stock. Turns out when prices go up, retailers don't fill the warehouses.
@alittleleader I read those words and feel you - the first year longer without the person than with, the year they were dead longer than alive - even those are now decades ago. But I also see the pic and feel your dad, because I'm only a few years past cuddling my little tiny person like that.
Texas election hot take: flipping that Senate seat is a longshot, but the candidate with the best chance to do it is... whoever wins the Democratic primary. Those of us bound by linear time don't know who that is yet, so unless you're a TX primary voter please calm the fuck down.
It's the most German thing ever to notice that your organisation is not following the official instruction manual properly and then writing a 95 dot-point summary of how wrong they are.
Someone is flying around City Hall tail whipping in a little buggy to Olivia Deanโs โMan I Needโ. Philadelphia is the best city in the world and you canโt convince me otherwise
@magi_jay And *within* states there are often different election rules across counties/parishes/etc. As you suggest, a somewhat hilarious but remarkably effective sort of resilience against coordinated attack.
@EggerDC I agree! But I think here that distinction can be a distraction. Any modification opens up too much space for both honest and intentional misunderstanding. It's not needed here anyway - not like we haven't all seen video shot on potato before.
@EggerDC Honestly? "It's not exactly an AI photo" is what made it feel equivocal. As the leading sentence it set a tone, which in this case came off (to me) as a distinction without a difference. It actually weakened the implication of the sentence with "the AI has guessed"!
No no I hate when my government oppresses ME. Itโs actually good and wise when they oppress you. And as a tough conservative man I donโt read poetry and thus am unaware of any warning about how this might negatively affect me in the future.
@PessimistsArc Nah, man, sometimes part of the place nostalgia comes from is remembering that a thing wasn't universally admired - that you loved it despite the looks, the assumptions, the approbium. And then other people learned to love it as you did, but you get to remember you were there 1st
